Hopping Into 2014
It is but one time of year I can throw this greeting out
as the universe gains another year
so many things I could wish for all:
For those who have felt the heavy hand of nation
that says it loves peace
yet continues to sell weapons globally
I simply echo Lennon words
"but I am not the only one
hope some day you will join us
and the world will live as one"
For those who feel isolated
as if there is no empathy to be found
Sir Paul once told us,
"there is always someone, somewhere
you should know by now,
always someone who cares"
For those who are stunned by the foolish
ways of a flawed individual like me
just remember I am always trying to be a work in progress
and I want to be "other me that doesn't let you down as a rule"
I am also "less then the song I am singing
more then I thought I could be"
Those who feel trapped or restricted
as Big Brother creates a drone society for even shipping parcels
I also want to provide the other side
we have created immunizations that have
basically eliminated fatal diseases
crafted weather warning systems to
lessen the effects of severe weather
and have sent aid within hours to fellow human beings suffering
without regard for our monetary gains
The human race even today
has so much positive potential that is untapped
and old hatred that I never thought would cease
even looked at as quite silly through the lens of time
For the constructors of poetry
keep on doing what you do
even the ones that I think are too conceited
in imposing moral standards and stuffy with definitions
are dearly appreciated
I am always thankful for the those providing words
of encouragement even when my attempts don't deserve it
proof positive that tolerance for fools isn't dead
So for us all in the coming year a standard hope
that all can use
"always follow your bliss"
in that way you will be sure nothing will be missed
from the beauty of a sunset
to a lover's so sweet kiss
Quotations courtesy of John Lennon, Paul McCartney (get ya next time George), Hoyt Axton, and Joseph Campbell
