Fish

The Fish

eyes bulging, body flopping,
mouth opened, gills folding,
glassy eyed stare,
mouth grasping for air,

slowly drying up,
surely trying what,
ever to defeat dying, but,
the circles aligned,
from life we find,
this paradox,
I must detox,
I can not kill anymore,
I can not kill anything for,
anyone, not even my body,
so this is my oddity,
I am a killer, red blooded,
a hunter, of what is,
alive,
or I was this,
at least,
until I opened eyes,
of my own,
and looked down startled,
there was a fish out of water,

eyes bulging, body flopping,
mouth opened, gills folding,
glassy eyed stare,
mouth grasping for air,

I turned away to spy the eagle in the tree,
perched on a branch, spying on me,
waiting for me to offer the fish,
fresh and laid out on a dish,
the platter, the grass, next to the lake,
patiently waiting for me to take,
the fish off the hook,
still alive,
place it on the grass,
so the eagle could dive,
swoop in for the offering,
that I was to provide,
I thought all these things,
who would survive,
obviously the eagle,
strong and willing,
trout would be killed,
eagle doing the killing,
I turned back and looked down,
to the fish out of water,

eyes bulging, body flopping,
mouth opened, gills folding,
glassy eyed stare,
mouth grasping for air,

I am the vessel,
I left the fish to lay in the grass,
The great bald eagle moved in so fast,
bright white head, beautiful art,
long golden talons razor sharp,
outstretched, strong, seeking,
to clutch in claws the being,
that flopped on the grass,
it happened so fast,
one talon rips through the skin,
the force sending the fish to spin,
into the air, fall from the claw and land,
back on the ground, eagle circled again,
fish still alive, maybe I should save it,
but then I realize that it's to late, this,
was partially my doing,
why was that my choosing,
I am a killer, red blooded,
a hunter, of what is,
the fish that's out of water,

I am a killer, red blooded,
a hunter of what is,
alive,
no,
I will not be a killer anymore,
I want to be a lover, amor,
I will live my life,
not kill the light,
for I am good at my core,
I'd rather grow lots of vegetables,
than eat all these animals,
let the life cycle continue,
let the patterns take place,
but I will not get into,
running in this rat race,
I will elevate,
high like the eagle,
but fly as a saint,
I'll be a dolphin,
but a shark I just can't,
Don't want to be a predator,
so if is either or,
I'd rather be an herbivore,
for I have more,
love than hate,
life than death,
I'm in a place,
to just breathe breath,
no more fishing,
only wishing,
all the best,
for every being,
for everything,
is truly blessed,
so even though the past is behind me,
I still see those glassy eyes in my mind, these,
guilty thoughts are real,
but the past has passed,
nothing last,
forever's how I feel,
still this memory is there,
that glassy eyed stare,
from that fish out of water...

yes and sometimes the things furthest away can seem the clearest while those up close can someetimes get lost in the detail
