Words

So many ways I could say "I love you"
But what good would that do?
How would you take it?
Or would you even believe me?

There are literally millions of ways I could word it
But I would much rather prove it to you
As actions speak louder than words
The exchange of energy between two bodies does not lie

I long to show you how I feel about you
Words simply won't do
Not like a touch, or a game
That may lead to other things

I want to show you the real me
Beneath the rough exterior
Hardened by years of heartache and rejection
Like armor to protect my heart

But I have trouble trusting anyone
Past mistakes have left me nearly unable to love again
And as fast as you fell for me
How can I be so sure you wouldn't fall for another just as fast?

I wish I had the luxury of allowing love to grow
Much like a slow-ripening fruit
But usually it ignites like a wild-fire
Soon leaving only ashes in it's wake

I tend to go all-in
Like a raw hit with no condom
Eventually, I'll find someone to share the rest of my life
If these wounds don't drain my life-force out first
