Lovers in the Rough

If by chance we had met
In an alternate past
Gamblers might place their bets
On our passion to last

But ours was a stacked deck
No chance in hell to win
A honeymoon train wreck
Strangers drowning in gin

Chorus
Lovers like you and me
Lovers like you and me
Lovers like you and me
Were never meant to be

We're lovers in the rough
We're lovers in the rough
We're lovers in the rough
Who never loved enough

Losing the will to fight
As the fickle moon wanes
We could pray through the night
To the Saint of the rains

To wash away our fears
To give us strength and hope
But after the shed tears
We still had too much rope.

Repeat chorus

Bridge
Such a fool to believe
Them loving words you said
Just some tricks up your sleeve
Made a grave of my bed

Restless night with no sleep
Finger nails digging dirt
Head over heels too deep
In a dark den of hurt

Repeat Chorus
