I Thought

I am lost in endless horizons
Where false dawn holds keys to my prison
Shadows tell quests of light bearers
And I hold the blackened wick of what once was

I thought your hands could tell my story
I thought your voice could swallow my fears.
Where are you?
Where have you gone?

I saw my heaven in your embrace
Now crushed by the hides of falling leaves
Spiraling into what I believed
Who are you?

There is an indent on my finger
Of a circle you placed
Weighted with lies I did not see.
There are rings on the bruise that count years.

I placed all of these seeds in your eyes
But where you walked
Dead were left behind.
I thought…

I chose to love you
Until it hurt to stop.

I thought the outline of your face
Would frame my night sky
In starlight wishes,
Promises placed on the dark side of the moon

I thought those ‘I love yous’
Were rain in my desert come to an end.
I thought I could feel something…

I am drowning in hazel hues
Turned red with hells
Bent back on roads
Where silence sits in the passenger seat

I thought you were the lines
Missing in the mirror
The notes my heart could never get right
I thought…

I thought I was safe
In time turned smile that walked next to me
I thought you were the eagle in my sky
Come to carry me home

I thought you loved me
I thought my love was enough
I thought… foolishly
