What the Currents Bring
Teal to sapphire hues shimmer
under scattered sun diamonds,
black islets standing guard.
White froth frolics with seagulls
swooping for a flash of silver,
rising triumphant into azure
streaked with distant clouds.
Fishing boats bob along,
rise and fall, then rise and rise
with an unseen flicker of twisting
beneath. Thirty feet and rising
a vast current brings with it
seeped poisons from fractured
barrels left behind decades ago,
unaccounted and forgotten.

Ooh, Gabriel, if you could see what I saw this morning! I should have got a picture, but didn't want to stop my coast drive.

Sudden tsunami has to be the worst catastrophic life changer if you live on an island or the coast. From beauty to a twisting beast, so is life in it's extremes. Nice poem to suddenly turn; set me up as I was reading .. which I'm sure was your desired intent in your poem. I enjoyed it.

Yes, the sea is a fickle mistress, beautiful and cruel.
The twist is because I wrote it for this:

I'm pleased you liked it, Jake, thanks!

Beauty of the sea and the taint that lurks in it's deeps. You don't need a picture when we can paint a splendid azure seascape with your words.
Great start to the comp, Atakti. Thank you and very well done.

West Coast highway? That can be both incredibly beautiful and incredibly eerie when the fog is still low.

Beautiful ocean tribute, yet we have tinged her mighty grace with our fuel addiction. I find tar balls all the time on my walks, yet even we cannot dim her brilliance, thank you!

True words, Mike. Although, I was thinking of something more sinister (no surprise to some) than tar...

Beautiful imagery Atakti, I think the word azure belongs to you officially :)
Wonderfully crafted portrayal of calm sea with danger beneath the surface.

Haha, Vee, are you saying I can stick a flag on 'azure' and camp out there? I do like that word...
Thank you for the kind words.

Nature is so beautiful, but Mankind is stingy enough to do any sorts of resets, that's why the world resets itself once every while...
