Lay Down the Arms
the rifle's loaded
but i know i've run out of ammunition
no words left to say
to keep your haunting voice at bay
tonight I rest in the trench of misery
wide awake because if i fall asleep
the enemy will want to visit me
sometimes i wonder if i should
just let you win
let you just slip away
with a blade through my heart
like a mercenary in the night
leaving me with no strength to fight
tonight I rest in the trench of misery
wide awake because if i fall asleep
the enemy will want to visit me
a hundred thousand thoughts
in a disarray like a massive army
forgetting why it was they fought
they're still screaming out loud
laying shot up on the ground
why do we fight?
i don my armor at sunrise
camouflage everything so we can
keep trading back and forth our lies
like bullets shattering through glass
gunning each other down
and seeing who's left standing last
so called love,
why is it even worth the fight?
does it even really exist?
a figment of our imagination
a kind of wishful thinking
to spark the war we're now waging
tonight I rest in the trench of misery
wide awake because if i fall asleep
the enemy will want to visit me
a hundred thousand thoughts
in a disarray like a massive army
forgetting why it was they fought
they're still screaming out loud
laying shot up on the ground
can't we just lay the flags down
for tonight?
let me bury my head in your arms
and remember the reason why
I chose you for all kinds of warfare
can't we just remember for tonight?
so when the morning comes
we can raise the white banners
of truce, peace, and surrender?
i no longer wish to fight
there's no way i'll let you go
put away your blades and guns
it's over now so lets call a truce tonight
and really forgive each other
in the morning light
but i know i've run out of ammunition
no words left to say
to keep your haunting voice at bay
