High early in the wakin' morn (of 1745 at Prestonpans)

High early in the wakin' morn
Did the English come to mourn,
When the Jacobites did rise
To help Bonnie Charlie's eyes,
And hands nearer to his rightful heir
England's throne and crown so fair.

High early in the wakin' morn
Sounded the pipes not the horn,
On the field of Prestonpans
Armies clashed on the grass;
One of Charles Edward Staurt's Jacobites
Tother Sir John Cope and English tights.

High early in the wakin' morn
Right through the golden corn,
Did Clan Cameron cry brave charge
While Cope's guns didn't discharge,
And rather fled in fear
Of the highland cheer.

High early in the wakin' morn
Did the English come to mourn
When the Scot Jacobites did rise
Heeding the Young Pretender's lies
Broke the government army hands
In 'Forty-Five' at Prestonpans.
