Suit Up
I want to wear you
like a fine cologne
wrap my faltering existence
in your ensemble of confidence
sewn with threads of fortitude
as I have the tenacity
to own a room
I want to watch her eyes
become helplessly lost
in my story written anew
as each chapter has her
playing cat and mouse
like a little school girl
I want to discover swagger,
smell the air
from a higher plateau
as I have the grit
to stare god in the eye
I want my armor
from a judgmental world
that bogarts second chances
but is quick to shake hands
with a masquerade of bravado
I want thicker skin
well polished and new
window dressed for success
a semblance of my former self
that you once before
simply looked through
like a fine cologne
wrap my faltering existence
in your ensemble of confidence
sewn with threads of fortitude
as I have the tenacity
to own a room
I want to watch her eyes
become helplessly lost
in my story written anew
as each chapter has her
playing cat and mouse
like a little school girl
I want to discover swagger,
smell the air
from a higher plateau
as I have the grit
to stare god in the eye
I want my armor
from a judgmental world
that bogarts second chances
but is quick to shake hands
with a masquerade of bravado
I want thicker skin
well polished and new
window dressed for success
a semblance of my former self
that you once before
simply looked through
