The boogeyman knows best
I am not afraid of anything
not conniving evil villains
waiting
behind black secret veils
not vicious vile
thunder claps
or jagged rips
of lightning
not elusive monsters
that lurk below beds
and in closets
I am only afraid of
the crippling
and whittling
of life as we age
the unwhispered words
I thought I
heard you say
and the fragile fraying
of reality that reoccurs
each day
I am afraid of everything
not conniving evil villains
waiting
behind black secret veils
not vicious vile
thunder claps
or jagged rips
of lightning
not elusive monsters
that lurk below beds
and in closets
I am only afraid of
the crippling
and whittling
of life as we age
the unwhispered words
I thought I
heard you say
and the fragile fraying
of reality that reoccurs
each day
I am afraid of everything
