JUST CHILDREN
JUST CHILDREN
When you open wide your eyes, and you open up your mind
Take a look around you, you’ll be very sure to find
On the streets before you playing, like they always do
Together doing all the things, we also used to do
Just take a good long look into, those happy lustrous eyes
And see those happy faces that are true, and free from lies
Sit and watch them long enough, together friendship binds
No prejudice or hatred words, just simple virgin minds
They take a lot of notice of, the birds and flowers and bees
Pay intricate attention, to the detail of the trees
They listen to the sounds of all, the things that they can hear
You’ll notice too they’re confident, without displaying fear
They come in different colours and, their sizes vary too
No mention of these differences, but simply me and you
How wonderful to see all this, it’s everywhere we look
The wonder that is there to see, just like an open book
Now look at us and tell me why, we do the things we do
Raise voices loud with anger and, then beat them black and blue
Expect them to survive all day, without a bite to eat
Just use them and abuse them, like they are a piece of meat
Our eyes are out of focus. and our minds are tightly shut
Too occupied with drink and drugs, and reading filth and smut
The needs we have take precedence, before we look elsewhere
Too much in life for us to see, and got no time to care
I am I said I am I cried, a fully grown adult
Don’t try to tell me anything, your words they just insult
I used to be just one of them, the way you do describe
Then growing up the way we do, just teaches us to bribe
Like you I walked with open eyes, mind open like a door
I envy those you talk about, just children nothing more
