Store Voyeur
There was a lengthy queue in lingerie
so I was fortunate to commandeer
the single vacant chair
right by the changing room
alongside a leggy potted plant
Sitting as still as I could
I attempted invisibility
back straight
body language proclaiming:
"Nothing here to hide"
with my right eye fixed
firmly on the Washington Post
left eye secretly
squinting down the line
They came
in all shapes and sizes
hopefuls young and old
clutching flimsies
brandishing bras
in gleeful anticipation
sometimes dangling them
a few inches from my face
waving excitedly as they passed
The scent of bedroom adventure
up close and personal
hung tense in the air
I became a lusty pirate
ashore after a long voyage
swashbuckling my bawdy course
over oceans of womanly perfume
caressed by satin and silk
my cutlass slashing cubicle curtains
as I leapt through the changing room
screaming: Hurrah!
Behind me
the assistant coughed:
"Excuse me, sir...
You've been here rather a long time
Are you waiting for
someone?"
Reluctantly I arose,
thankful for that Post
to help mask embarrassment
a slow shuffle for the exit
rekindling the thrill
of my secret silk and lace
so I was fortunate to commandeer
the single vacant chair
