The White Abyss
Shiver and cough, take a deep breath and look to the sky,
Watch your breath take flight as you let go a pondering sigh,
Silence, not a sound in the air, all the world remains still,
As you lay back against the tree on the snowy hill,
Arms tucked away, huddled, just your thoughts to play,
Gazing into the distance as the gray clouds mask the day,
The trees, the grass, the lands lost under the snowy white,
Mother nature's details lost under it's mask as if in contrite,
Fluttering and falling, the first small flake makes it's way,
Down, down, it lands upon your cheek without delay,
Thought breaks free, the cold chill all you felt,
Warming upon your pale skin the crystal does melt,
Shimmering and gliding, the little drop makes it way down,
Followed by a mysterious other as they drip to the ground,
Bite your lip, swallow it down, look to the sky and sigh,
Just watch the flakes fall and don't ask why,
It's lost, under the mask in the crystals so vast,
Each flake a decision now falling from your past,
None look alike, though when they land it's all the same,
Each crystal no longer unique as they fit into frame,
How they got there, from which they came,
It no long matters as there's nothing left to claim,
Million little choices, lost, this is what you see,
As they fall into the vast white unforgiving sea,
Blending and melding, they have lost all meaning,
Leaving you with no thoughts intervening,
Staring, pondering, looking in to the white abyss,
You realize what matters is not the choice you missed,
What you saw, you can't see or choose, what was there,
Was a the choice you never thought to compare,
The only flake to fall, still being so very unique,
Was the one you felt..as it ran down your cheek.
Watch your breath take flight as you let go a pondering sigh,
Silence, not a sound in the air, all the world remains still,
As you lay back against the tree on the snowy hill,
