Image for the poem One

One

I am a locket
on a chain
that hangs
about your neck
and I live
between your breasts.

I am a band
around your ankle
and my bells
call out your name
when you dance.

I am a charm
around your wrist,
and, as you touch
your deepest thoughts,
I am the tinkling tingle
of your breath.

I am the ringlets
in your ears,
and, as you stare
into the evening sky,
I am the vision
in your heart
that is yours
and yours alone.

I am your foot steps,
and every passing placement
becomes a holy spot
where love has made its way
across the great expanse
that is the journey
of all being.

There is no end
to how you and I are one,
and so, to be
in you
is to be complete
and see myself
for the first time.
