Bricks of Resentment

Commonly the fight dies out …
Because there is nothing left to burn.
Shallow sorrys’ sometimes follow
Without lessons ever learned.

Resentments are expected
Makes a brick of feelings repressed
A brick of avoided conflicts
Never resolved, discussed, or addressed.

The spark is always a ‘little thing’
Not worth fighting for correction
Returning to ignite the flame
Leading gradual regression

Unaddressed disappointments
The happy couple is pretending
Without crisis there is no growth
keeping peace invites the ending

Communication diminishing
To much has happened to recall
Propelling the vicious cycle.
Loosing each other behind the wall.

Holding onto the good times
The wall of issues left denied
Up & down , getting nowhere
emotional rollercoaster ride

Resolution drifting further
Repeating the same fight
Bricks brought from the bottom
It’s not about whose wrong or right

Larger, heavier –still unseen
‘little things’ aren’t ‘little’ at all
Unnoticed right in front of them
Too distracted ignoring the wall

Can’t force lost connections
Things aren’t how they were before
Chemistry buried beneath the wall
Attraction impossible to restore

Another brick weighs on the couple
Each stacked upon the last…
Naive to what’s building between
Complied of issues from the past.

Instigating each others worst
Past plans bring on confusion
accelerating downward spiral
Waking up from the delusion

Egos travel on separate paths
Heart breaking, hiding care
Together as distance grows
bonded by the wall they still share

Dwindling & dying out
Insecurity delays separation
Invested emotions at a loss
closure comes with realization

The true commitment of a union
Is to always work things out
Addressing all the little things
Never let resentments mount.

Broken down & Damaged
There’s nothing left to mend
The bricks of ignored little things
Built the wall that brought the end
