This God of theirs
Demands love "or else torture"
An eternity in hell for what?
Mere sins of one life
For perpetual strife
To me that won't make the cut
Sitting in their pews
Clinging to their holy books
Unable to fathom any other
They call this heist
"Free in Christ"
Where, in what they follow after?
Trapped in their belief
Following blindly it seems
"I'm saved by his graciousness!"
I see nothing free
Just limited philosophy
Flawed and incompleteness
I'm slow to grasp
Understand this cult
This group with conviction
So strong, unbending
It's not accepting
Their so called liberation
It comes with too much fine print

Hmm... That's an interesting thought. I don't pay much attention to political figures, but you probably have a good point there.
Jesus appears sometimes to be more liberal and certainly more sociable towards those outside the rigours of religious law, than Paul who, after persecuting Jesus' first followers, then claimed to have seen his light. However, it must be read in relationship to the culture of their times. Much of Rome's population were slaves whose masters could put them to death if they escaped and were caught, the Jewish law allowed for keeping slaves in certain circumstances, and Pharisees - of whom Paul was once - used to pray thanking God 'I am neither a dog, a heathen or a woman.' Paul did, though, say to Christians who were slaves in Roman households, 'If you can buy your freedom, do so' and he commanded husbands to love their wives.
