Watching you sleep

Watching you sleep
I think of how you came,
(No, not in that way!)
You came here uncertain,
with thoughts
of conquest.

You came unsure,
but planned success.
You knew the way
beyond the door,
the way to push
past my reserve.

Your way, yes.
You did not think
I might have ways -
and means,
to get my way,

I watch you sleep.
The sun will touch
your unguarded face.
Then you will wake,
unsure,
uncertain of my judgement.

Shall I have mercy?
You hope for praise
for guarantees
of more such times,
sure that you’ve won
a pass, the right
to enter with no delay.

I am uncertain,
I am unsure.
I pull the blind
to block the sun.
I’ll let you sleep
for longer yet,
and consider my judgement.
