Dance In Their Glow
Christmas carols dance on the breeze
And the neighborhood is speckled
With snow angels and giggles
Childhood innocence infects the air
Like the scent wafting from the cookie filled oven
That taunts you with looming calories as
Your mind tumbles through snow drifts
Trying to formulate a way to make sense
Of the emptiness that is causing your heart
To crumble apart and fall into your stomach acid
How can you be jolly
When your eyes are foggy with depression
I can see the pain you try to hide
With your too loud laugh and pupil dominated eyes
You think you have us fooled
But I see right through your festive bracelets
And I spot the blood seepage dried
On your dark and long sleeves
I know that razor blade isn't signed out
For winter break art class creations
But for your immediate escape
When everything is crashing and clashing
Until you are dizzy with anxiety
Unable to even mutter a "happy holidays"
And just need to break open a few capillaries
So you can once again convert caloric energy
Do you wonder how I know the signs
It's because they used to be mine
I know you don't keep a toothbrush in your bag
Because you have great concern for oral hygiene
But because you must scrub away the smell lingering
From vomiting up everything you couldn't help but eat
Don't look me in the eyes and lie
Mumbling falsities about being fine
You do not have to battle alone
Pull the muffs off your winter chilled ears
So you can hear the Lord calling you home
Darling, look at me
Do you see the fullness life can bring
Look deeper than frosted cookies and candied treats
You say you want what I proclaim
Then you must let the Creator intercede
Jesus is the only one who can supply
The power for you to make it out alive
So slip on your boots and take your sled out for a ride
Find the pleasure in the painful seasons of life
Winter won't last forever
But take this time to admire
The snow crystals falling all around you
As individual as all of the people
Who have ever crossed paths with you
This is how life is:
It gets shaken up like a snow globe
But then the broken pieces dance in the sky
Painting it a million shades of gold
And they urge you to dance in their glow.
And the neighborhood is speckled
With snow angels and giggles
Childhood innocence infects the air
Like the scent wafting from the cookie filled oven
That taunts you with looming calories as
Your mind tumbles through snow drifts
Trying to formulate a way to make sense
