Going Away to College (A Series of Poems)
Packing
Pack your heart up in a box
Label it “memories” and think
Of a few of your favorite things
Crying
Every tear drop holds a rainbow
If you remember to let light shine
Family
A redwood forest holds trees so big
You think they must touch some kind of heaven
And everything smells like rain
Soaking up the same nutrients
Each growing to be beautiful and different
Going Away to College
It’s just a new set of training wheels
But don’t be afraid of losing a tire along the way
Scrapes are part of the adventure
