why do people have to go

whether they leave
or are taken away
or simply cannot find their way back

why?

they could have been loved
they could've had a family
they could've woken up
and sighed
knowing that was where they wanted to be
with who they loved

but now you're alone

and all you can remember is their face
and the way they smelled
but you'll never have the chance
to go back
you'll never have the chance
to say goodbye

when all you can remember
is their hands
and the breath they took out of you
when you danced
and when they touched you
and their eyes
and how you could look at them
and when you did
you were relieved
because you knew

you wouldn't ever be forgotten
even if they blinked

even
if you forgot to say goodbye.
