Still Rocking and Bluesing
Sir Robert was in town
and the dude can still bring it
jamming at the Waterfront
oh man did he sing it
Once upon a time
he was front man for the mighty Led Zep
a force of nature were those British guys
full of swagger, bravado and pep
Wisely didn't try to recreate
that band's sound to a tee
without Bonham and Page
there was no way that could be
Instead changed arrangements
that didn't require as much of the high voice
since it was a blues festival
it was a very good choice
With the money going to the food bank
helping the less fortunate and giving back
a splendid Summer's day in P=town
and cost a lot less then Fleetwood Mac
Blues well he owned it
white soul brother number one
had me feeling amorous
oh yeah I can come undone
With that African world be in house
reminded me of another Brit
Peter Gabriel after Genesis
and Robert has a wonderful wit
Now I realize that some of my favorites
are getting up there in age
but just because they are road tested
doesn't me they can't command the stage
And while NOTHING can top
seeing Sade in full force
Mr. Plant still kicked it
steered the festival on a lovely course
and the dude can still bring it
jamming at the Waterfront
oh man did he sing it

Tell me about it. I didn't like the bluegrass album he did but fortunately he didn't play any of those songs.

What a wonderful description of both a great night and the memories it evoked!

Thank you; like many wanna be guitar players my first goal studying the instrument was to play that classic Page/Plant song, "Stairway To Heaven". At that time only "Hotel California" even came close.

U2 a few years later cemented my desire to explore rock but Led Zep and the Beatles got me on the path.
Sometimes musical acts ignore Portland and go straight from Los Angeles to Seattle so it was good to hear him without having to travel to another state. The Oregon Food Bank raised over 63,000 lbs. of food and over a million dollars so it was for a good cause. If you factor in the other acts including Mavis Staples it was much easier on the wallet then Fleetwood Mac, especially when you consider that Christine McVie no longer performs.

Indeed that is staggering--awesome!!!
I wonder how Fleetwoods shows are set...maybe they are more controlled...whereas the other cats have more freedom to set the prices(and do "giving" shows)...I've read in past where Fleetwood and co. have always made some soso deals---which always ends up in the record companies favor.
hard to believe that this day and age companies still have the stranglehold they do with many long-time acts.

With Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, I doubt if they are too worried about it. They did fairly well on their own and as songwriters they get income from publishing. I don't know about the other two although it should be fairly easy to get an estimation of their wealth online. I know with the Eagles, Don Felder tried to make it sound like Henley and Frey were reducing him to poverty. There may have been something foul going on but even with that Felder is worth at least 15 million dollars.

Indeed they themselves have done well, but they keep the actual concerts and its ticket sales up to the corps. that's the shame...unlike the Plant and others who have wrestled control under their watchful eye...so much price gouging---and then theirs the benefits done You speak of...many of these pillars should have fallen suit long ago...many shows I wont attend because of such overhead and greed. it is nice to hear of such a mass giving!!!

Funny you should say that---I would say that 80 to 90% of the music I listen to is by people older then I am. I also notice that some of them have band members who weren't even around when the main artist started recording!

Fortunately now I have the good sense not to get so wasted with the "blues" on. Mind you my few days of over indulgence in alcohol were nothing compared to what Eric Clapton went through!

Like so many of our friends here, music is a big piece of my life. If I thought I could do justice to the artistry I would craft more poems on the beautiful gifts given us via the world of musical instruments.
