If I had a stick right now I’d shove it
through the middle of your apology
just like we did with the marshmallows
at your brother’s summer bonfire
and hold it over an open flame
roasting away its insincerity
while flecks of guilt and lies flake off
and fall to the bottom of the embers, sitting among
the remnants of my foolishly glowing trust.
