Taking Care of K
I'm here on time, like yesterday
I just sit in the pink wing chair
in her room, the tiny t.v. already
turned on left that way by the
caretaker before me
As the morning light slowly
makes it's way through the
windows, she still snores,
in fifteen minutes I'll start
calling her name so we
can begin her morning
routine
She won't remember my
name, she won't want to
get out of bed, holding
onto her sheet she will
tell me No, but I'm not
giving up
Getting to her feet and
making her way to the
bathroom I help her
with everyday tasks
that most of us do
ourselves
After I change her and
dress her I take her to
the couch where she
waits for the next
caretaker, and tomorrow
I'll be back to do it
again, but she won't
know who I am

Thoughtful and kind piece. She might know you based on your caring and kindness. Does she have Alzheimer's?

Reminds me of the toll Alzheimer's took on my grandmother, it hollowed her bit by bit ...
... Solid ink.

This reminds me of being a carer. It was sad enough seeing those people when I didn't know them, but if they were family members it would be heartbreaking.
