Natural Beauty
I was a dark-skinned girl
But the cold made me seem fair
The morning took away its mist
And sunlight shone through my hair.
I could hear some whispers
So I just walked along shyly
I didn't yet realize
Those whispers said 'gorgeous, lovely'.
I walk even more quickly
Eyes filling with tears
I'm afraid of being ugly
It's my greatest fear.
Then a boy approached
His eyes as blue as the sea
He begins to recite poetry
Could he be talking to me?
All the other girls stare
Glaring envy and hateful
I smiled with soft petal lips
For once I felt beautiful.
But the cold made me seem fair
The morning took away its mist
And sunlight shone through my hair.
I could hear some whispers
So I just walked along shyly
I didn't yet realize
Those whispers said 'gorgeous, lovely'.
I walk even more quickly
Eyes filling with tears
I'm afraid of being ugly
It's my greatest fear.
Then a boy approached
His eyes as blue as the sea
He begins to recite poetry
Could he be talking to me?
All the other girls stare
Glaring envy and hateful
I smiled with soft petal lips
For once I felt beautiful.
