Good Night, Children

Thoughts of blueness
of sea and sky
of times of day
that have gone by
Lace the mind
as time goes on
to midnight
the end of a day
the beginning of another

Thoughts of kisses
stolen under umbrellas
of rain and drizzles
on wet cold days
of misspent youth
and its carefree ways
towards advanced years
and responsibilities
loving growing family

Cymbals of goodbye
On hallowed ground
Hymns like Mom’s lullaby
Sending eternal sleep
to a tired traveller
the rain falls, as tears
of grieving children
crying descendants
those as yet unborn

The day is done
The travel is ended
Time for slumber
Goodnight everyone
Will wake up when
The trumpet of Dawn
Sounds.
