Two Thousand Pieces
Shattered.
A thousand laughs and a thousand tears
in pieces
lost against a blue sky.
How dare the world be so bright
while I am left here in the dark.
How dare you be so cold when all that I've given you is warm.
You must have long arms
to keep me so far
yet hold me so close.
Praising my perfection
while pointing out
every little thing
I didn't mean to do wrong.
It must be my fault.
It always is.
Though I'll never know.
My words fall on empty phone lines
or your back
while you walk away.
The only thing left is to write
but you don't fight that way.
My wires keep getting crossed
in your mixed signals.
If I'm happy or sad,
I don't know,
but there seems to be only one way
you want me.
I'm exhausted from running after you.
Tired from waiting.
My strength is waning
(and my complexes building).
I'm tearing myself to pieces over you.
You don't notice the cracks,
but it doesn't matter.
All that matters is your smile.
A thousand laughs and a thousand tears
in pieces
lost against a blue sky.
How dare the world be so bright
while I am left here in the dark.
How dare you be so cold when all that I've given you is warm.
You must have long arms
to keep me so far
yet hold me so close.
Praising my perfection
while pointing out
every little thing
I didn't mean to do wrong.
It must be my fault.
It always is.
Though I'll never know.
