tones of silence
Talk to me in tones of silence
so that I may forget the sound of your voice
echoing through my bones
I’m not safe here
behind the silvered bars of my retreating mind
wondering why the sun still rises
in the shadow of my thoughts
And I can’t explain the sound
of beating drums inside my head
or why my tongue has become so chaste
inside my wicked mouth
a mirror to the devilishly unspoken
So talk to me in tones of silence
while I slip through the floor, defeated
by the things my mouth won’t say
