Sharing Shadows
I understand your darkness.
Shared shadows of nearly the same shade.
I see the smoke of the encroaching flames
And upon the floor, pools of self spilt blood.
I know how it feels to gasp
The lifelines just outside your reach.
Advice pours from lips like water
Yet no reaching hands to pull your head above the surface.
Sinking in this quicksand, I refuse to struggle
If I can't be helped, I accept.
Oblivion come quick!
Don't give me the chance to hurt another.
The poisonous past can only corrode the future.
Is there hope?
Instinct responds with fight or flight.
Both options feel exhausted
Leaving only the whispers of the scythe
And the quiet, still darkness of death.
