Paint Eyes On a Rock
Here you go kid,
be good at everything,
but great at nothing.
Spill your life's achievements
over such a wide surface
that they remain a shallow puddle.
Be happy for yourself,
but don't be so happy
that you accidentally become inspired.
Run.
Not to get where you are going,
rather, to escape where you've been.
Jump.
Just to see if you can,
but... just to see.
Make friends.
So you can desert them,
fearing the commitment.
Paint eyes on a rock and
practice talking to it.
But be careful,
it might like you.
Better yet,
hide under it instead.
be good at everything,
but great at nothing.
Spill your life's achievements
over such a wide surface
that they remain a shallow puddle.
Be happy for yourself,
but don't be so happy
that you accidentally become inspired.
Run.
Not to get where you are going,
rather, to escape where you've been.
Jump.
Just to see if you can,
but... just to see.
Make friends.
So you can desert them,
fearing the commitment.
Paint eyes on a rock and
practice talking to it.
But be careful,
it might like you.
Better yet,
hide under it instead.
