The Disease of Kings

 No pain, no gain is the mantra,
I choose to live by through all the years
I have suffered all kinds of pain:
toothache, headache and back pain
just ignored them, until they're gone.

I'm not a King, but I have
the "Disease of Kings."
Thought of as having a rich diet
Gout was caused by what you eat
Centuries ago that's what they thought
Nowadays, it is just a myth!

Gout flares strike without any warning
I feel like my toe is a volcano erupting
into a hot, fiery flare:
hot, red, swollen, and extremely tender.

It amazed me how severe pain in the toe
could make me immobile
I have no clue...
Until my doctor told me
High uric acid is the culprit--
can allow crystals to continuously form
and build up in my joints.

Now I'm in constant pain, and joint destruction
Current attacks in elbows and finger joints
almost prevented me to share my point
HELL NO!
Nothing could stop me to write,
Not even this pesky GOUT!!!
