old school
he picks up the glass
cuz its his best defense
against a world that no longer makes any sense
to a man who was hard
cuz he had to be
in another time
in another place
and its seems that hes always
a step behind
he cant walk straight
between these lines
and the kids look at him like he's just a fool
old school
he smiles at the lady
who pours his drink
and reminds him of someone.
she smiles back.
he says "thanks",
and as she turns away.
time stands still for a moment.
he takes a sip ...

the sixties were the shit
The sixties were the shit until 73
Then the Nam went down in flames
But watergate put the fire out
Like we thought tossing that old crook by his ear
was all the price we had to pay
for Napalm
for Mi Lai
for Pol Pot and the way
Jack and Bobbie got killed so young
like hope got snuffed
Then Teddy had his own little Watergate
But he came out of it fine
Glad it wasnt me
I still wouldnt be seein the light of day
What?
You think they wouldnt put a poor boy down for that shit?
Thro away the key.
Mary Jo deserved bettern that...

When I Was As All-Knowing As You
The longer I live
the more each moment
reaches for meaning
while fleeing
heaviness
as lightness of being
returns
like youth
brandished by one
who
no longer has
the strength to wield it.
So then, telling
the tale
of life
and
the lessons of love
with every good intention
of saving someone
the pain
of wasting time
on non-essentials
nevertheless
wasted on ears
not engaged
in hearing from one
so obviously
past
relevance.
A revelation
reveling...
the more each moment

Shaken
I slipped my thumb
in
and grabbed you
with my fingers
and squeezed
tightly
while I clamped my mouth
upon your breast
and wrapped my arm
around your waist
and lifted you.
I shook you
until you screamed for it,
until you could not
live without it.
Then I
grasped your hips,
pulled you tight,
and we rocked
until the the heavens burned with fire,
until we screamed together
as the walls collapsed around us
and we lay beneath the stars
Shaken,
inside and out,
laughing and
sighing.

Undone
My heart has been invaded.
It never had a chance.
You slipped through my defenses,
your beauty like a bloody lance
pierced
the knight unshielded,
unseated by a glance,
fallen.
Then,
head cradled in the tender arms
of the very one who caused him harm,
the image of that lovely face
(as consciousness returned)
emblazoned upon memory
as if a rose were burned
upon the eye of
the beholder,
thus undone,
a fortress taken,
disarmed
forever.

The evil reputation heaped
on his true name
for ills done by so-called Christians
falsely in it
while the world seeks glory
in names that cannot give it
yet among them some,
unknowing,
live it

are so few
who love the name
and live it too.
