POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I just wander through my mind and pick up what's lying around on any given day. I'm not a trained poet but I enjoy writing nonetheless. It seems like a good way to drain the demons in my head in a constructive manner.
The Worries Of My Life
The ledger of my life looks like an empty page
And I wonder what happened to all my days
Now that I can see the end
So close to me
For all I’ve done
It seems it adds up to just one frosty breath
That lingers for just a moment by my mouth
And then disappears into the air
As though it were never there at all
As the end draws ever near I wonder
And I worry
Though I know that it’s a useless waste of what’s left
I worry
And I wonder what happened to all my days
Now that I can see the end
So close to me
For all I’ve done
It seems it adds up to just one frosty breath
That lingers for just a moment by my mouth
And then disappears into the air
As though it were never there at all
As the end draws ever near I wonder
And I worry
Though I know that it’s a useless waste of what’s left
I worry

Life Changes
She grows tired about eight o’clock
And pours herself a glass of wine
She’s been trying to find a new way to go
But she’s running out of dreams
It’s been a long, long time
Since she was young and full of life
But she isn’t really all that old
It’s just sometimes how it seems
And she sips her wine
As the tears slide down her face
She lights a cigarette
And blames the tears on smoky eyes
She wants to reinvent her life
She needs to find something that’s fresh and new
She has to find herself a new direction ...
And pours herself a glass of wine
She’s been trying to find a new way to go
But she’s running out of dreams
It’s been a long, long time

Memories Of Happiness
I spent the night in sadness grip
Knowing that you did not want to be with me
At least on that night
Of all the others I could not be sure
And that saddened me ever more
Since all I want in the world is to be by your side
I just wandered the house
With the memory of other nights together
Racing through my heart
And those images made me laugh
It was a sad laugh
But a laugh nonetheless
I could live in the memory of you
Alone but together
And still remain happy
Until you came to my door
Smiling
Knowing that you did not want to be with me
At least on that night
Of all the others I could not be sure
And that saddened me ever more
Since all I want in the world is to be by your side
I just wandered the house
With the memory of other nights together

Fighting Words
You cannot fight alone
Although
When I refuse to be sucked into the vortex or her argument
It is as though I am fighting even harder
In that she goes
For lack of a better word
Batshit
She throws her high school psychology at me
As though she knows what she means
Telling me that my silence is a slap in the face
As though it isn’t worth my time to argue with her
And she calls me names which I won’t repeat
And all the while she is right
By my silence I am simply saying that her argument has no merit
And so I won’t bother to...

Darkness And Pain
Sitting lonely in a darkened room
Life has taken his purpose away
And he wonders how long to bother
Carrying on when it all means nothing
To him or to anyone else
When he was young and proud
They would listen
And now not one will look
At him or at any his age
So he sits in the dark
In his sadness
And he’s set to go
To leave this life
Since it left him long ago
And he waits
With just his pain for company
For the word
That heaven will send
That will be the last day
In this life at least
The end
Life has taken his purpose away
And he wonders how long to bother
Carrying on when it all means nothing
To him or to anyone else
When he was young and proud
They would listen
And now not one will look

Lies And Liars
Everything is said and done
The mystery laid open wide
With a mirthful smile on its face
She wanders home
Streets as quiet as the grave
Tears burn down her cheeks
No doubt left now to lean on
As truth has opened its eye and looked at her
She understands and it breaks her heart
All lies left falling on the floor
Did she prefer to not know?
It seems that way as her heart is broken
By truth and all it brings to her
She still can’t believe what she has to believe
Her thoughts drag on the road beside her
Through the muck and into her...

Time
Time had slipped away with love long before the love story ended
And so it was almost a thankful thing to be able to walk away
With no screaming or tears
No hatred left to linger and torment
Just a melancholic feeling of something that once was there
But no longer lived
Left only with lines on my face where none had been before
I left there and moved on with life
In search of what was to come next
But not really in any hurry for it to be a staggering love affair
I thought that last with a smile
Knowing that if one came along I would happily...

A New Life
There won’t be any more living this way
He’s tired of being tired of it
He packs what he thinks he might need for a week
And decides he will buy whatever else he needs
As he goes along his new trail
He is finally excited with life
Sees a future where he didn’t before
And sees more than just one more day in front of him
That he isn’t sure he even wants to live
What life will hold he doesn’t know
And doesn’t much care
It will finally be life again
Instead of just existence
He smiles as he closes the door on his old life

Middle Age
He’s slowed down now in his middle age
Though at fifty he realizes that he’d have to live
To a hundred years old
To really be in his middle age
He knows he won’t make it
Way too much wine
A thousand too many women
And so many songs he can’t count that high
It takes a toll on a man
He has a lot of pain in this battered body
And his breathing is not what it should be
But all things being equal he’s done pretty well
He’s retired now and doesn’t want for a thing
He travels when he feels like it
Or feels like he has to get away

Poet Or Writer
As a fiction writer I make up stories
Fakery that is supposed to feel like real life
And make people believe that what they read
Has really happened
But as a poet I’m supposed to write the truth
Emotion as story
Feelings as characters
So when I combine both talents am I a fake
As a writer or a poet
I wonder
And yet still I write
My fictional poetry
Sometimes

Notes
She adds a note to his lunch
Because she has been doing it forever
And when it is her turn to make lunches
She likes to do this little thing
And it still feels like the right thing to do
For the man she loves
The note is only one line today
But says all there is that needs to be said
And she knows that he will smile
So she stands at the counter
And smiles herself
Even after so long they are in love
And almost more importantly
They are in lust as well
That deep want that keeps the other
Excited and exciting
That feeling will...

The Music Of Life
There was music playing on the radio
Of that she is sure
But she can’t recall the song or even the singer
When she thinks back to that morning
It wasn’t so long ago
And It’s kind of funny in that not funny at all way
That he would use the phone after such a long time
But there he was with his news to tell her
Maybe not such bad news she thought now
On the phone at nine o’clock in the morning
And it was him that started to cry
As he broke the news that he needed to break her heart
But as he sniffled she became angry
Not broken hearted...
