POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Lately, find it interesting and, occasionally, enjoyable...
Today XIX
Today,
he started the day
checking himself for symptoms...
He opened the door
stood at the threshold...
Saw the trees
the empty streets
the parked automobiles...
He heard the wind
the murmur of the leaves...
Vital signs stable
Breathed in, breathed out
Firmly alive...
Closed the door
he walked back in...
Today,
he stares at the blank screen
and hangs his words to dry...
he started the day
checking himself for symptoms...
He opened the door
stood at the threshold...
Saw the trees
the empty streets
the parked automobiles...
He heard the wind
the murmur of the leaves...
Vital signs stable
Breathed in, breathed out
Firmly alive...
Closed the door
he walked back in...
Today,
he stares at the blank screen
and hangs his words to dry...

On 2020
A few months ago
on his calendar year 2020 preview
jotted down
a crocodile crying sighting
many a choreography
for dancers with two left feet
a self he could call his own
and a slight increase
of excuses for his behavior...
Fast forward to now
- hurry before the now is gone -
he rides discontent's Winter
plastering against the wall
like a spray can with a spelling impediment...
In the now
right after the now before
assumes a horizontal pose
and pauses projecting second thoughts
on calendar...

Suspicious Mind
I stopped and frisked me...
Not much fun,
but, the darker I become,
the more I suspect me...

Will You Be My Valentine?
Hey!
Move away!!!
You're blocking my darkness!"...
That's how it all started
And, then, came love
"All I want for Valentine's Day
is a date with a fair lady
and seven unfair ones..."
Rejected!
Get real!
"Is reality
an alternative to illusion,
or an alternate illusion?"
Huh?
Next question!
"Where is smoke
is there always
a smoking section, too?"
And, then, came love
For poker faces
"When I grow up,
I want to...

Today XVIII
Today,
he started the day
listing his lies and his truths...
Nothing complicated or intricate;
two columns.
One for lies, the other for truths...
Thought it better to start with the latter.
The obvious, the oft repeated,
the constants he could not deny,
like... Yes, like... Maybe, like...
Probing doubts crawled in...
Truths, or poses, pretensions, claims,
automated responses, statements and spins?
Overburdened and overwhelmed
to the first column he returned...
Best to list them in...

Shadows disappear...
Nothing
to follow now...

Routine Walk
On his daily walk
his mid-afternoon stroll
Usual route
Usual time
Usual encounters
His routine
his impossible to break habit
Always, fearing
Always, wishing
Always, preparing
For the unexpected to happen
For the unusual to occur...

Ooops!
Put on the fake mustache
put on the darkest shades
mingle
chit - chat
occasionally laugh
and hope 2020
recognizes you not
and fast walks away...

Poker Rhapsody
I see your party
and I raise you a Table Dancer
I see your clown
and I raise you a Fallen Angel
I see your thick mustached Georgian butcher
and I raise you a Dermatologist
I see your Rasputian mysticism
and I raise you a Czarina who shall remain nameless...
Pot's right!

and I raise you a Fallen Angel

and I raise you a Czarina who shall remain nameless...

Maria In the Dark
In the dark
- deceiving light absent -
her true colours...
In the dark
her warm, reassuring tongue...
In the dark
finger under pillow
patiently caressing trigger...

Reflection
From time immemorial
to time immemorial
- appearance was never less deceiving -
our reflection
a striking consistency
displays:
Our governments
are just as rotten as we are...
