POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Hanged
Faith and virtue
frayed from wear
grip his neck like a line of fire
He burns with it
A perfect soldier
swayed by word of the righteous man
to think apart
Behind orphic blue
pride and rage blaze all chaotic
Feathers split through to their bases,
light shatters to dust
The rope pulls tighter
It is Thursday
and he is free
frayed from wear
grip his neck like a line of fire
He burns with it
A perfect soldier
swayed by word of the righteous man
to think apart
Behind orphic blue
pride and rage blaze all chaotic
Feathers split through to their bases,
light shatters to dust
The rope pulls tighter
It is Thursday
and he is free

As I Enter
Heaven shines white hot from behind
burning my eyes to blindness
So you stand much like a ghost before me
all here, but almost gone
Then your welcoming hand slips from my shoulder
whilst a salt water sting blurs my vision
And I struggle long for forgotten calm
as you grin
burning my eyes to blindness
So you stand much like a ghost before me
all here, but almost gone
Then your welcoming hand slips from my shoulder
whilst a salt water sting blurs my vision
And I struggle long for forgotten calm
as you grin

This Is
Somewhere, some night
you lean by the bar
talking at length of life
the universe
and how much you love her
I am there
and this is inconsequential
You hold a glass half full
of two types of poison
and the stance of a man
who knows too much
while knowing nothing at all
I move closer
and this is imperceptible
Smoke licks from the bright burning tip
of your dwindling cigarette
then catches in my hair
like a lover's hands
and rakes its fingers through
I cough
and this is unintentional

beautiful stranger
once swayed to claim that Shakespeare wrote the perfect tragedy,
my teacher thought himself so wise as to say
"there's no such thing as perfect"
but when five years on, my eyes find your face
suddenly I want to turn back time
to argue the validity of 'perfect' until that teacher sees true
because what kind of creature are you
tousle-haired like you just woke up, though it's well past noon
your sweet honey eyes somehow ignited, turning toffee brown
skin so fair, peppered with freckles
nose curving gently downward
and smile slightly...

All who had preceded him left chaos in their wake
Tying triple knots in my heart strings and ravaging my head
'Til I was alone with cuts and questions
Then he came with great aplomb that fit well with outward appeal
A face like the art of Masters
And apple green eyes that sliced like diamonds to the depths of me
I found those eyes a curiosity
Their iridescent glow all encompassing, so much that I lost time by them
As they promised secrets I could only hope to hear
At his word I found my own eyes droop, soon closed to all

In His Eyes
First a gentle man of science, fire in his eyes
Burning every moment for a monster in disguise
He wears the rage in brilliant green and buildings fall like flies
And then, again, the gentle man, now sadness in his eyes

Your Wonder
The long set sun has left traces of illumination
Little strands of sunlight tangling in your sweat slick hair, all golden brown
Every pore weeps exhaustion, marking five hours' toil
for a kind of victory that aches like ending, like defeat
He stands before you, foe though you'd never name him, too humble is your heart
And before you he stands, showing his spoils
Silver mirrors to the both of you, and the clear one between -
and this mirror holds the wrong reflection, superficially you
But a smile far too wicked meets your mouth, where your own...

The Party
Shadows creep across the walls and canter ‘round the bed
They catch in the curtains, all lunacy and lace
Then swing above me like manic monkeys,
throwing insults like excrement into my open ears
In the dining room, the guests have brought plus ones
Uninvited extras who gorge themselves on canapés,
swallow wine like water
And stumble past the buffet to vomit on my shoes
When all the guests have gone, I find those extras still,
dancing with the rabid shadows, keeping perfect time
Then as I, with two left feet, join in
they make a...

Track Three
I stand before you
all horrid and human,
dealing in lies
that come off like comfort to you
I plant seeds
in the fertile earth of my appearance
Cultivate and grow them
to make me what you want
I dare not hold you,
no, but let you cradle me
And that stinks of betrayal,
alas, your nose is busy with the roses
Your eyes too are occupied
by an outside so lovely
Drinking in the beauty of my garden
they cannot see the poison in the soil
It is not me you desire
but the flowers in my flesh
I am the great...

Track Two
Where are you
that I cannot find you
And what am I
that I still seek
My eyes cast shadows over a thousand strangers
And you, in the corner
But the sunshine blinds me
and you run
You are some kind of monster
to hold my heart in hands unseen
So perhaps that makes a fool of me,
that I wish you had my soul
I am drowning
Caught in an ocean of fear
that you shall never slow down,
and my body will not know you
So it is, when I have lost hope, you appear
Bruised and worn you find me
Waiting for the rendezvous...
that I cannot find you
And what am I
that I still seek
My eyes cast shadows over a thousand strangers
And you, in the corner
But the sunshine blinds me
and you run
You are some kind of monster
to hold my heart in hands unseen

Track One
Hidden behind the herbs and spices,
on the high shelf,
I wait for you
So when you come,
you can take my coriander hands
and kiss my cumin lips
And brush the ginger from my face
I will marvel over you
You miraculous thing
The curve of your smile and
the light in your eyes
which shines like dusk and dawn
We dance cinnamon swirls
And I hold on
for all that I am
I will never let go
I have waited too long
in my lonely prison
to set you free
So will you marvel over me
Am I, like you, miraculous...
on the high shelf,
I wait for you
So when you come,
you can take my coriander hands
and kiss my cumin lips
And brush the ginger from my face

You miraculous thing
The curve of your smile and

fifteen times
the earth turns fifteen times
then stops
because how can anything go on
without you
see, it’s not even a question
it’s simple fact
fifteen years
and you never once told me that you loved me
but I knew
like we all knew
and what are words worth anyway
when an image lasts longer
your eternal smile
burned bright into the backs of my eyes
met in my mind
by the sorrow of your last days
and hours
my hand
buried in your hair
as you breathed out
sighed away all your air
and then nothing after that
my body...
