POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Here it is and no one asked for it
Unrequited
I am sick in love
With you, but do not pretend
That you want me too
With you, but do not pretend
That you want me too

Your Story
Your life is so beautiful
I wish I could have
Even just a fraction
Of an adventure so rich
And a mind so free
Your vibrant breath
And crackling, blood-orange leaves
Beneath your knowing steps
They reveal your history
Long forgotten
I'll remember
This autumn day
As if it were my own
As if I already
Know what you knew
Take me with you next time
I wish I could have
Even just a fraction
Of an adventure so rich
And a mind so free
Your vibrant breath
And crackling, blood-orange leaves
Beneath your knowing steps
They reveal your history
Long forgotten
I'll remember
This autumn day
As if it were my own
As if I already
Know what you knew
Take me with you next time

gone
let me breathe
but no, wait--
I don't want to anymore
let me sleep
but my eyes
are already shut
let me burn
but-- the fire's gone
it's a vacuum
please,
just let me go
but no, wait--
I don't want to anymore
let me sleep
but my eyes
are already shut
let me burn
but-- the fire's gone
it's a vacuum
please,
just let me go

just look
look at everything
in this moment
there is beauty
in the smallest

The Pedestal
Oh how easy it is
To give power to a figure
Because of something you thought
In your stupid little head
How dare we think
And therefore create a monster
That would hurt us
Without cause or warning
How dare I think
That you were more than you are
A prophet, a god, an example
Someone better than our thoughts
I realize now
That I hate you and my love
Was strained by a longing
For a promise you can't keep
I obliged you with it
A truth that wasn't yours
A gift you can't see
And won't remember ...
To give power to a figure
Because of something you thought
In your stupid little head

It's not what you think it is
It can be argued that writing is an escape from emotion, not an experience of it. This sounds extremely contrary to our ideas about what writing does for people, which is usually associated with catharsis. A release of emotion. A human need to experience pain, pleasure, sadness, and elation. But maybe writing allows for a different existence altogether, some kind of disconnection. The writer chooses to write something to rid himself of instances of humanity, not live them. They don't have to feel it, just write it down. The experience is for the reader, not the author. Seems like a terrible...

Used
I sighed and broke my rule
The one barrier that separated me
From slutdom
Because he permeated my skin
And touched me where no one
Ever tried
And I couldn't help
But feel wanted and flushed
And strong
Because his chest felt
As if it could hold everything
I wanted
Passion shared with a friend
Wasn't something I was supposed to do
Or want
But I felt the yearning and roughness
Of his hands open my thighs
And touch
And feel--
It was then that I felt more alive
Under his embrace...

I Am Penguin
I am penguin.
Foreign, but closer to your heart than you know.
Cold, yet sophisticated, warm, transparent.
Simple in appearance, but complex with the vanities of my soul.
I am penguin.
I love with what I have.
I feel what I can’t explain.
I walk with a humble swagger.
I fly without soaring, my mind stays anchored.
I am penguin.
But my identity isn’t guaranteed.
Fluctuating like the glaciers of the Antarctic.
Moving with a slow purpose.
Tweeting the song of my kind, the music of my people.
Broken with a chance to be fixed.

When Death Found Love
I gawked at the man give her his last breath and I froze.
I had never seen such kindness given to death, in black and white.
Hope flourished where it died and my feet stood their ground.
I was never meant to see this.
Because love wasn't meant to be seen in darkness.
Love did not flourish in the midst of dead things.
It wasn't supposed to exist without sex and passion and lust and tears.
But it did and I saw that love.
I saw a love that needed no explanation or thought.
I saw a love that thinned a man and gave life to a dead woman.
I saw...

Waiting for the end to begin
It seems everything
comes back to me in waves.
I feel too much,
see too much,
hear too much.
My mind never stops.
I'll never be enough.
I notice infinity encroaching,
being so far and impossible,
yet so meaningless.
It makes me unnecessarily
nervous about the end.
Wherever it would end.
Math never made sense,
but I think I understand
that everything exists
to be converted
into numbers and calculations.
Maybe.
Infinity is strange and stupid:
a boundless...
comes back to me in waves.
I feel too much,

hear too much.

What I want you to see
Your eyes
Grass and leaves and earth
Lily pads and ice and sea
Your hair
Light and sand and gold
Sun and glimmer and fire
Your smile
Small and fragile and soft
Tainted and ambiguous and hurt
Your beauty
Destined and longing and free
Fearsome and slow and wavering
Your love
Unwritten

Burning
Burning cheeks
Warm froth on the tips of eyelids
Lips quiver and teeth clench
Tears dry on puffs of red skin
Nose yearns for air
Throat swells
Broken lenses
Nails dig into cold flesh
Cracked skin
You lean for a kiss
But are met with straw
And kindling
The fire grew
Without you
Endlessly burning
You're burning
Yet the cold consumed
And left you frigid
I fought for a while
But it seemed worthless
And hot and cold
Because I saw your tears
