creating hints of deep red

submerged by usual oranges and pinks

the lake still

fully hushed

water engulfing the scene

he took a knee

listening

the waking sun whispering his next move

his eyes wandered to the ground

his once clear mind now in a haze

with the trance now broken

he stepped over the body
...

she wanders through the withered grass
rocks perched upon markers
a tally of visitations
contemplating the dates
some at rest for decades
fresh earth blankets others
velvet green chairs abandoned
human remains departed
extinct
it is calming
her sanctuary
her sedative
she sweeps the grounds
avoiding one space
where laughter no longer exists
old toys left in its place
once stumbled upon by mishap
she sobbed
and she mourned
the only instance of feeling detached
in a place filled with whispers
