POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write as an outlet to make sense of my world and experiences. My purpose of sharing my words with others is in the hope that readers may identify with them insofar as what it means for them.
Farewell Bowie
The one distinguishing feature about early-70s progressive rock was that it didn't progress. Then Bowie subverted the whole notion of what it was to be a rock star". – John Peel
Ashes to Ashes
Under Pressure
Station to Station
Embraced as treasure
Ziggy Stardust
Hero’s and Fame
Let’s Dance a Space Oddity
And join the refrain
Colossal change agent
Five decades proud
Unique in your glam
Wearing no shroud
Always germane
Progressive punk rock
None uninfluenced
Never of stock ...

Withdraw
Cold night sweats
making me ill
simple calmness
begging, be still
Shakes and shivers
trying to contain
fear envelops
seizures of pain
Acute senses
too much to bear
emotions return
sensing their stare
Fearing death
excruciating withdraw
drink again
unable to stall
Shame and guilt
comprehended
feeling well
not apprehended

Vows
When did I love you become a lie?
Why did you promise and then not try?
When I need you most, unaccompanied I cry.
All that you offered, you now deny.
You left me alone, without goodbye.
You clipped my wings, I cannot fly.
I’ll seek not to trust nor care to try.
You betrayed your promise, left me to die.

Shattered Glass
Afraid of my balance
Yet walking alone
Searching, seeking
To find a footpath home
Lost amongst my thoughts
Unable to find a way
Regarding a future
Avoiding decay
Crying inaudibly in secret
Exterior feigning strong
No allowing other’s vision
Watching everything as wrong
Rising above myself
Evident upon me
Others pass judgement
My mirror they do not see
Vivid, they do not understand
My eyes they cannot pass
Observing an external me
As fields of shattered glass
Yet walking alone
Searching, seeking
To find a footpath home
Lost amongst my thoughts
Unable to find a way
Regarding a future
Avoiding decay
Crying inaudibly in secret
Exterior feigning strong
No allowing other’s vision
Watching everything as wrong
Rising above myself
Evident upon me
Others pass judgement
My mirror they do not see
Vivid, they do not understand
My eyes they cannot pass
Observing an external me

Insomnia
Escape to sleep
Dreams resist
Racing thoughts
Oblivion exists
Emotions linger
Pain appears
Morning’s onset
Novel fears
Silence echoes
Restlessness confines
Intervals pass
Ancient reminds
Brevity of slumber
Hollow imminence
Incessant withdraw
Absent resilience
Dreams resist
Racing thoughts
Oblivion exists
Emotions linger
Pain appears
Morning’s onset
Novel fears
Silence echoes

Bars
The phone keeps ringing
I meant to rise today
aspired to be strong
breathing will not obey
heavy on my chest
I begin to close my eyes
thoughts make me ill
all that is now dies
bars on the windows
to keep fear outside
trapped me in a cage
from myself I cannot hide
I meant to rise today
aspired to be strong
breathing will not obey
heavy on my chest
I begin to close my eyes
thoughts make me ill
all that is now dies
bars on the windows
to keep fear outside
trapped me in a cage

Amid the Morning Darkness a Short Story
I believe a person’s character is shaped by their experiences. These events may be positive or negative, important or trivial, by chance or by choice. Nonetheless, these happenings become the context of each person’s life and as such, they influence a person’s reaction to any other given situation.
Sometimes we learn from our involvements, and other times we question the necessity.
This story is about the latter of the two. This disheartening encounter has impacted my life profoundly and in such an intense manner that my personality has been altered.

Recovery
The wisdom of all eternity
Is gained acutely through a recovery
And affords true knowledge
In the arms of discovery
Is gained acutely through a recovery
And affords true knowledge

Drowning
Drowning in this vessel
The dark and evil swells
Grasping, I am lost
Drifting to my hell
Drowning in this vessel
Into the darkness now
All hope no longer breathing
Treading, I know not how
Drowning in this vessel
Pure blackness on the sea
No stars or moon to shine
No direction can I flee
Drowning in this vessel
No senses can I observe
I gasp and gulp the water
Nothing in reserve
Drowning in this vessel
The dark and evil swells
Grasping, I am lost
Drifting to my hell
Drowning in this vessel
Into the darkness now
All hope no longer breathing
Treading, I know not how
Drowning in this vessel

Hope
Even the darkest shadow
Eludes a hint of light
Amid a blackened world
Occupied by fright
Even the darkest night
Warrants another day
Shielding all the dimness
Appearing in the way
Even the darkest tunnel
Will introduce an end
After light is encountered
Darkness shall not offend
Eludes a hint of light
Amid a blackened world
Occupied by fright
Even the darkest night
Warrants another day
Shielding all the dimness
Appearing in the way
Even the darkest tunnel
Will introduce an end
After light is encountered

Perception is the key
Alcohol, so ordinary, a part of our culture. Easily obtained and a social acceptance in its legitimacy. We celebrate life’s successes, transitions and holidays with our liquid spirits and we mourn our losses in the same fashion. We experience liberation, companionship and connection. A truth serum, we believe, and so we think its effects reveal character and we adopt the persona. This lovely mead, simply magical in its power to lift our spirits as well as calm our soul. Our tolerance for inebriation is extreme. We embrace its comforts as it cures all that ails us…until it doesn’t. ...

Stigma
Hide the intensity
Of a heart beat
Portray no emotion
Keep feelings discrete
Repress all pain
To a world unknown
Locked in a closet
Not let it be shown
Smile away sadness
If one must pretend
Keep it in hiding
The sorrow will mend
Laugh through tears
From empty eyes
Cast a shadow
Keep truth in disguise
Of a heart beat
Portray no emotion
Keep feelings discrete
Repress all pain
To a world unknown
Locked in a closet
Not let it be shown
Smile away sadness
If one must pretend
Keep it in hiding
The sorrow will mend
Laugh through tears
From empty eyes
Cast a shadow
Keep truth in disguise
