POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
The poems do that for me, if inclined.
Waking In The Sweet Mystic
Will I be sucked into the sweet mystic
Sometime soon
I worry?
Only because lately, each morning
Waking means watching, sensing Being
Rise, quicken a ravishing spectacle
An orchestra loyal to her conductor,
Tuning for a new day
Like earthrise from the moon
Unbearably angelic, inexorable
A picture we startled
Recognize, like tablets uncovered in dark earth
After millennia speaking a memory collective
Together gasping we brush away the dirt
Each waking
Bright crescent rising from shadow,

Surfacing Night
I don’t release you
Shadow twin, unbearable chimera
You are still
The knot
Gathering the hoop of my heart
Straining in a tea cup
Behind the mirror
Your hands lean into mind
Pressing the meniscus
Out of black earth a green fuse
Brave, dumb rudderless,
Turning me to hear
The rumble
The rumble of wheels on rutted track
Below the bed of this wagon
Jolting rocking seasick aching
Where I awakened bound face down
Wrapped...

Deliverance: On the Last Day
What happened?
In the second fall from faith
He cast me from our garden, why?
He said, surely we won’t die
Was I his
Piercing Lucifer
Dark thorn drawn
Blood bloom needle through his eye?
Maybe he dreamt foolish
That our Lord of Love would repen history
Drawing him again under sheltering wings
In bargain for our gamboling lamb
Wearing his hair shirt, swallowing soot,
Life for austerity of love?
Sudden exile, no...

Rooster Coupling with Train
The rooster courts the Empire Builder
Flying floating naked
Past midnight with hours to go until the light
Echoing up Yaksum Canyon, bouncing back down
They keep at it and keep at it!
He has spirited out of the barnyard
She has jumped the eastbound tracks
Their love is happening
Shimmering mourning petal punctuated notes
Dispersing sweetness, rosy ringing animation
A spectacle sneaking into every sleepbound ear
From old whiskey soaked orchardist
To rooting babe ...

Once Maiden
Petals drop
Arroyos, deltas and plains
Cast bolder shadows creasing
About still-quick pupils, telling chart
Snowcapped range
Prologue rings the green valley
Shangri-La lush, smaller, stranger
Farther from the charted world each year
Odd tales protected
In a near dead tongue
Growing more obscure
The heart of an emerald nearly black
In ages no translator has crossed the jungle
Ready to scribe and translate
It will all return to earth
Fits of snorting pleasure
Rolling, twisting, thrashing on my spine ...

The lot is enough
Scarred muscled heaving beast
Hooves, burrs, bursting core
Run in war, play, pilgrimage
Find what spinning Sufis chase
Rising in whirlpools light lilting
Dissolving the prison in white
Lungs are bonds to burst
To bounds, to the tree
Where Buddha sits still
The palm of him
Open to soft rain translating
The whisper of everything
Falling gently down
To seed the great shared Nothing
Ransom with attar of rose this soil
Curious teeth tearing wet fruit
Any little girl would ask, surely we will...

Illumination - Two Lines Cannot Enclose a Space
The mind
Willow gymnast
Chalks her palms
Flexing limbs of light
She runs, springs
Vaults landing taut
Balancing on a beam of white thought
Chin high, shoulders back.

Maker's Pause
Red-veined iron ore slow burn
All made things pause, turn.
One low-slung star drops winded
Down for the count cold
Piercing an onyx deep.
A fulsome jade tide pauses
Her ebb deterred at apex
By a shiver in the axis.
A flicker, redoubling,
Slighter than the sparrow's running shadow
Wingtips slicing the cheekbones
Of an impassive, slant-eyed sea.
We fallen noisy dumb
Turn distracted blurred and blind
Toward tones brushing our whisker...

My Evening Uncut
Or,
Gretel and Grendel A Wake
Drove home alone, marvelous blessed blessing, from Bellevue, fleeing crow-eyed blind date. (I’m a pilot,” [picture of the Cessna] “I’m in intelligence…”) Shall I confide, “I’m in intelligence, too…?” Leaning across the sweating beer and mustache, creaking black leather, smartly snapping the wallet to prove up his ID, confiding his average annual income
“…have no fear I am no rapist no stalker no no no i only want, i just want i only want… i only need to own you and eat you softly alive and you will see this wont hurt you will...

October Goodbye
for Tom
The heart in decades, spades
Spilled, filled
Our moon held water
In every touch the sea came up
In eons, night crossings
Spanning October's goodbye and now
Sailing dry-eyed apart, our Bedouin barks
Borne on the outbound crest of a rippling hoop
Cast from the core of a big bang demise
To the Fall of our galaxies blooming
Bloomsday stars pinned us cold between the dome and deep,
Fixed to...
