How Can I Write This Poem?
In order to write this poem, I have to be ready
I can't start too soon, My left hand must become steady
I'll have to open my mind Wide and as free as a bird
but not just any:
I must be able to imagine cool, moist air tugging slightly on the wispy, sensitive tail-feathers of a peregrine falcon as she swoops towards her prey from a rocky cliff on the shores of the calm Hudson river with gentle waves lapping softly against the shoreline
My mind must be free
So I can find And so I can bind
Those words that make such lovely sounds To this humble sheet of...

First Step
Emotions trembling through me.
You might not know,
If you were to see me.
Not many can.
Expressions that match my feelings,
I hardly ever show.
But, now I'm here.
I've got nothing else to fear.
Why not let the truth be told?
Then,
Perhaps,
I might have your hand to hold.
You might not know,
If you were to see me.
Not many can.
Expressions that match my feelings,

But, now I'm here.

Understand Me
Cruel
Senseless
Feeding into my
Deepest fear
How could you?
I work so hard,
To give myself a name
And
All you do is leer
You claim
I'm the one to blame
It might be true
I'm just starting out
Could you chill?
Give me some time
To learn what it's about
I'm not saying that
I don't want to hear
The honest truth
But please,
At least
Respect me
As a human
As a neighbor
Andwhat I stand for
Senseless
Feeding into my
Deepest fear
How could you?
I work so hard,
To give myself a name
And
All you do is leer
You claim
I'm the one to blame
It might be true
I'm just starting out
Could you chill?
Give me some time
To learn what it's about
I'm not saying that
I don't want to hear
The honest truth
But please,
At least
Respect me
As a human
As a neighbor
Andwhat I stand for

Hermit
Disconnected
Pain and torment cannot reach me here
I see events unfolding
I try to understand
Wrapped in the cocoon
That I call my mind
(I come to realize)
It isn't easy
It isn't fun
However,
Something must be done
And so I leave my protective shell
To enter a place
Quite close to hell
I begin to struggle it's full of strife
I have enetered,
A place known as life
Pain and torment cannot reach me here
I see events unfolding
I try to understand
Wrapped in the cocoon
That I call my mind
(I come to realize)
It isn't easy
It isn't fun
However,
Something must be done
And so I leave my protective shell
To enter a place
Quite close to hell
I begin to struggle it's full of strife
I have enetered,
A place known as life

Joy and Daisies
Why can't we learn to shut up and listen?
Why can't we understand what it's like to be in their position?
One day, perhaps, the world may see,
How pointless all this hatin' really can be.
We'll be treated like brothers,
Equals as equals,
You and me.
That will be the day,
When we open our hearts
And love one another
No matter their looks or their smarts.
I've seen it in my fantasies,
Along with other stuff.
We'll roll a fat cigar of joy and daisies
And one by one, we'll all take a puff.
Don't take it literally-...
