POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Red Wine and Whiskey
Got my girl in the front seat of this Country Cadillac
A bottle in a brown paper sack
Uncle Kracker on the radio
We're creepin' hard, cause she likes to take it slow
She's an uptown lady, just a backwoods girl
Has a french manicure while skinnin' a squirrel
Victoria's Secret under a pair of faded jeans
Make a Pope kick out stained glass window
If you know what I mean
She's sweet, straight from the vine
Has the spirt of Tennessee moonshine
Her eyes are as bright as those big city lights
Her smile is...

I Wanna Be
She pulled up in a corvette
LATRAIL on the license plate
She had a smile with no regrets
She said get in I don’t wanna be late
A bottle of Jack, bag of cash on the floor
A memory in the makin'
We headed for that Georgia shore
Cause it’s there for the takin'
Her hair was like Farrah, while blowing in the wind
She sang like Janis Joplin, missing a word every
now and then
She had a style of her own
Like the "Outlaw Lady" played by Sharon Stone
We walked along the beach ...

Fence Post
I'm really unclear why I'm here
Has it been a year
Since I held my Becky near
My little girl says it is for the best
And I deserve the rest
Haven't seen her in a while
Some days I can't remember her smile
Just like fence posts
We're lined up in row
We're weathered and tethered
Rusty wire are memories, stapled to our hearts
Nothing but grass and weeds keep us apart
You never notice as you drive by
Like fence posts
Like fence posts just left here to die
I think about my life,...

Alabama Sunshine Georgia Pines
I remember how good it was from the start
All the love we had with wings on our hearts
I can still feel that Alabama sunshine
Setting here under these Georgia pines
Like a summer's day that faded into the dark
Somehow we drifted apart
Like the winds of change
A gentle breeze with no one to blame
Like a roller coaster ride
Hands are in the air
Hearts on the fall
You know... we had it all
Like a princess at the party
With time running out
Just to find a pumpkin I recall
We had it all... We...

Like a Alabama Song
Sitting here under the tree
Dreaming of a girl that's right for me
Something more than just a pretty face
Like faded jeans with a little lace
Someone I can take up town
Or out in the country where the crickets are the only sound
A "Roll On" tee shirt and a bottle of wine
Sippn' on Tennessee whiskey just for a good time
Give me girl like a 69 super sport Chevelle
Style of her own and can raise a little hell
Like a jacked-up mud truck that's turning it on
"take me down and love me all night long"
I want a girl like a...

Broken Seal
I find myself not understanding what I feel
Somehow something has broken the seal
All these memories I thought I put away
Buried deep in my mind until today
They've taken on a life all their own
Like facing reality while being stoned
Treasures you can't hold, counting them one by one
It's an addiction that just can't be undone
I'm trying to let go
I want back the world I know
(The world I know)
Did I sell my soul for a ghost from the past
Still trapped in your aftermath
How...

Is she pretty? Prettier than me?
Time is a reminder of all that could be
Looking at this reflection, it's more than I can see
My thoughts drift away
I wonder is she pretty...prettier than me?
I gave her life, but gave her away
It's just what had to be
I heard the nurses say
Is she pretty? Prettier than me?
Now that your grown
A little girl you have of your own
I hope one day you'll see
You're pretty, prettier than me...

Ballad of General Lee
It was the summer of nineteen seventy nine
A hero was born in the Georgia pines
The angels played Dixie while his Mama set him free with the spirit of Robert E Lee
He was bright Hemi orange with a style from sixty nine
He was always first at the finish line
Wore a Confederate flag cause that's how he stood
Had a 440 six pack under the hood
He was long and built for speed
Had everything a country boy could need
He was free, proud...

field of daisies
It's six am I'm waking up from night
Sitting at the kitchen table
Thought I'd never see the light
With nothing else to do
But stare at a bowl of fortunes that never came true
I'm here and you're home
I hate we're both alone
I'll hope for the best
Say happy anniversary over the phone
And wonder if this job is worth all the stress
You're my rose in a field of daisies
After all these years you still drive me crazy
Never want to let you go, always want you to know
You're my everything
Our love is how I survive
Sometimes...

I Rather Bleed than Burn
Can't find the sunrise
I'm crashing into my soul
I now realize
I've have nothing to hold
My voice echoes when I call
My back against the wall
Where have all my heroes gone
They act like nothings wrong
With all these pages in my head
The devil won't let me be
I keep seaching for words of red
In hopes I find them in me
They say blood was shed
And "He" not dead
Sometimes I feel the fire
So when it's my turn
I rather bleed than burn
I'm crashing into my soul
I now realize
I've have nothing to hold
My voice echoes when I call
My back against the wall
Where have all my heroes gone
They act like nothings wrong
With all these pages in my head

Concrete Rabbit
Sitting here
Under this tree
With this concrete rabbit
Staring back at me
It has been
30 years or more
She brought home
From the hardware store
It's still standing here
with a broken ear
So many years have gone
An angel that has flown
Away too long
I swear sometimes
When that rabbit cries
A piece of my heart dies
Like a poem that has no rhyme
I still wear her ring
Hold...

So Much To Feel
Lying here in this bed
pillow covering my head
The softness against my face
Finds memories that time can't erase
Thoughts of a sunny day
Where time stood still
Standing on a riverbank
With so much to feel
Silence only broken by a gentle breeze
As it whispered through the trees
Her ear pressed aginst my heart
We both knew we would always be apart
A tear fell from her eye
Like the water rushing by
I kissed that tear away
She whispered forever remember this day
She'll turn out...
