POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Self-poetry, art, and nature are my keys to self-reflection. I enjoy implementing rhyme and imagery into my writing.
In the River's Mouth, Part 2
Breaching the water's surface
Choked for air
I began to replenish the ocean with my very own tears
I allowed the tiny drops of my soul to flow without fear
A gratefulness remaining within me, considering the rest was spared
Blurry-eyed, but still seeing
I noticed impressions of now-strangers' feet sprinkled along the nearby shore
For a moment, I almost felt a loneliness at the absence of people to match them with
But then I questioned how I could long for connections that lacked permanence before

Poem #5: March '23 (The Beginning)
We watch as lightning strikes the ground, and listen as thunder rushes to fill the spaces where it split the clouds into pieces.
Green, green jealousy
Envy creeps, crawls like ivy
I don't want what's meant for me
Internal energy
Replenished by the sun
Power the reconstruction, there can be so much more

What good is a scale that can balance it all
When it fails to reveal how heavy the weight actually is
When it fails to reveal how heavy the weight actually is

Poem #4: February '23 (The Ending)
A tree with exposed roots
My secrets unveiled
Frozen winds burn through my soul
A kiss to revive
Skin striped in shadow and light
Are you awake, yet?
We run alongside time
Not away from it
This feels right
My secrets unveiled
Frozen winds burn through my soul
A kiss to revive
Skin striped in shadow and light
Are you awake, yet?
We run alongside time
Not away from it

In the River's Mouth, Part 1
With eyes shut tight,
I plunge my head underwater
First, the biting cold nips at my ears, lips, and nose
Then, my fingers and toes
And lastly, kisses my forehead before I am frozen in time below
Freeing my breath from it's temporary hold, I watch as dread and nervous tension leave my body with each bubble's apprehensive ascension
Now, lying flat on my back upon the river's bed
I open my eyes to witness the mystical dance of light in the space above my head
Though I've found respite while suspended in the depths of this...

Poem #3: February '23 (The Beginning)
This final month of cold
A test of brevity
Loose ends form neat knots
Carefree, contented
My tears dry in the sunshine
Freedom is in sight
Defrosted my inner self
Just for it to freeze again
Pure pearls of clarity are what remain
A test of brevity
Loose ends form neat knots
Carefree, contented
My tears dry in the sunshine
Freedom is in sight
Defrosted my inner self
Just for it to freeze again
Pure pearls of clarity are what remain

You deserve to be here
There's nothing to prove
Just be yourself
You've got nothing to lose
The other day, I cracked my chest open and shared my heart with a new friend
Comparison was her name
A rumored thief of joy, or somethin'
Like a fool, I thought she'd make an exception out of me
Maybe, she'd spare the knife in my back, and the joy thievery
Too bad it took a couple of breakdowns
before I'd realize my happiness went unfound,
And she'd left my spirits for dead
My nerves became numb bunches like knotted...

Poem #2: January '23 (The End)
Solar rays return
Soulful haze, music plays
The day adjourns
Branches weave about
Nests rest in the cross sections
Careful, yet dangerous
Nine, natural days left
Lose track of time
Meticulous rhythms set
A ball of rubber bands, stretch to unwind
Soulful haze, music plays
The day adjourns
Branches weave about
Nests rest in the cross sections
Careful, yet dangerous
Nine, natural days left
Lose track of time
Meticulous rhythms set
A ball of rubber bands, stretch to unwind

Wind Wave
Inspire, expire
Heartbeats, instrumental
The bases of my lungs comprise the floor of this ocean
Air bubbling up to the surface
Whispers of breath
Rising then crashing, fervent
Ribs swell, increasing pressure
Healthy boundaries
Push me with encouragement
Nothing lesser

What Goes Unseen
It begins with the invisible work
What lies beneath?
Mentally: anxious (or is it stressed?)
Either way, I'm uncrossing these wires before things go berserk
This consciousness, a broken stream
Such messy thoughts
Don't dare open your mouth
Unless each word's placement is pristine
Deep breath in, and let it all out
Time to release the hold
What will escape?
An unintelligible shriek? a disfigured shout?
Here is where the visible work starts
Where disorganized pieces become cohesive
And fractured...

Two Equal Parts
Dear "Tried and True",
Thank you for graciously sharing half of your heart with me
For as long as I have feared completely doing the same, you have waited patiently
You taught me that love cannot be achieved through selfishness or greed
That spiritual sustenance comes from, "yours, mine, and ours," rather than, "I, myself, and me"
The first to turn me toward the mirror, and introduce me to my reflection
You ushered in the vulnerability necessary for me to share with you my imperfections
With master key in hand, you...

A Winter's Goodnight
One evening, as I wandered about
The sky became covered in a blanket of clouds
Raindrops fell to gently kiss my forehead and cheeks
Tired from the day, I returned home to get some sleep
There, the hum of traffic and street noise served as a strangely sweet lullaby
Moonbeams pierced the darkness of my room like a lunar night light
Any stress I felt before then had left with the closure of my eyes
There's really nothing like a winter's goodnight
The sky became covered in a blanket of clouds
Raindrops fell to gently kiss my forehead and cheeks
Tired from the day, I returned home to get some sleep
There, the hum of traffic and street noise served as a strangely sweet lullaby
Moonbeams pierced the darkness of my room like a lunar night light
Any stress I felt before then had left with the closure of my eyes
There's really nothing like a winter's goodnight
