POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am new to the enjoyment and writing of poetry. In public school and high-school, I didn’t appreciate poetry and frankly didn’t understand it. Now I can’t seem to stop writing, reading, experiencing and enjoying poetry.
Journal
Pages curling, ladened with thoughts
Indelible records of days
Dreams
Fantasies
Random thoughts
Fear of the first blank page of
perfect cream paper
Gives way to a flood
The need to record
Explore
Make thoughts tangible
Lay down the demons in my head
The pages are filled
Sad to put it away.
Saying goodbye to a friend
At least for now
The recordings of times and places will remain
to be relived.

J. Herbin - Terre de Feu
I saw a beautiful woman on the bus today
With tights the colour of this ink [terre de feu]
They were unique.
The tights.
I wanted to say something.
How do you tell a stranger they are wearing tights the same colour of a favourite ink?
I said nothing.
The bus stopped and passengers were required to leave.
Off to go about our days
One with a pen
and one with tights the colour of ink.

Transit
We meet every morning,
strangers
at the bus stop
Attempts to exchange words fail,
seem awkward.
The bus stop is no place for casual conversation with neighbours
Attention focused on speakers in your ears,
a phone,
the upcoming day
Day after day remaining strangers

Pussy Willow
The pussy-willows are flowering
The soft down now covered with yellow anthers
As a kid it was fun to rub the flowers against your cheek, enjoying the softness
As adults we hurry by with more important business
And forget the experience of the pussy-willows on our cheeks

Magnolia
The buds on the magnolias are swelling
The brown fuzzy scales covering the flowers
What do they feel like to touch?
They look so soft
I never took the time to touch them
A child would not hesitate to explore
To touch the fuzzy bud to see if it was really soft
I tried it myself
It felt like puppy fur
Soft, silky
It made me happy
The brown fuzzy scales covering the flowers
What do they feel like to touch?
They look so soft
I never took the time to touch them

Bare Trees
Branches devoid of leaves
Reveal the fractal beauty
Of a pattern
Repeated
From the trunk
To the fine twigs
Underground
The pattern repeated
Unseen

Sharing Poetry
Sending out bits of myself
Strings of words
Capturing a moment
An experience
A desire
Do I dare?
Does it bring me closer to you,
the reader.
We are cloaked behind online pseudonyms for safety
Sharing, but not intimate
Sharing without personal connections
Seeming hollow
Perhaps the curse of any artist.
How do you create meaningful connections in a world that is both very connected and very isolated?
