a little line of smoke winding upward

Ancient heart symbol
A muscle pump
No two alike
What is
a heart episode?
a cardiac episode?
Both are broken
One way or ‘nother
The physical heart
can be repaired or replaced
IF
you have the infinite currency it will cost.
The heart that beats for another?
No amount of legal tender will heal it
Only time or an embrace from you

Late in the afternoon
she sits with me
trapped in the corner’s shadows
a memory that comes and goes
light hair unlike my own
dark eyes that mourn the absence between us
her life a task of waiting she did not choose
The light shines through her body
her eyes fill with tears
but still she says nothing
nothing at all
She waits until the sun disappears
and then she goes
taking my heart with her
leaving a silent space no words can fill
My love
the one I’ll never have
who calls to...
