Why
Driving down the road I wonder why
To impress I always try
Really who's paying attention
I’m no one of great mention
A simple man nothing to look at
Hiding pain behind life’s hat
Tears you still may find within my eyes
With happiness I disguise
These overwhelming expectations
Wishing to change life’s stations
Dreams of coma and amnesia
Or simply anesthesia
Depressing! This I can understand
This is my cards dealt this hand
Now why in life do I choose to hold
Instead of learning to fold
To impress I always try
Really who's paying attention
I’m no one of great mention
A simple man nothing to look at
Hiding pain behind life’s hat
Tears you still may find within my eyes
With happiness I disguise
These overwhelming expectations
Wishing to change life’s stations
Dreams of coma and amnesia
Or simply anesthesia
Depressing! This I can understand
This is my cards dealt this hand
Now why in life do I choose to hold
Instead of learning to fold

Peer Pressure
Standing I stare, it’s just so high
Deep inside I want to cry
But to fit in I must now climb
Just one rung at a time
Friends behind me begin to chant
Growing small like an ant
Nearing the top I face my fears
In front of all my peers
Swallowing I pray to survive
This jump from the high dive
To the edge I must now progress
I now feel extreme stress
Pushing forward out to the end
A friend helps me descend
A push from behind I can’t stop
Oh no a belly flop!
Deep inside I want to cry
But to fit in I must now climb
Just one rung at a time
Friends behind me begin to chant
Growing small like an ant
Nearing the top I face my fears
In front of all my peers
Swallowing I pray to survive
This jump from the high dive
To the edge I must now progress
I now feel extreme stress
Pushing forward out to the end
A friend helps me descend
A push from behind I can’t stop
Oh no a belly flop!

Roles Reversed
When I was baby, you were there
Rocking me in your chair
Arms holding me ever so tight
Ensuring a safe night
As a child, you healed with a kiss
And brought back joy and bliss
Wiped away all my painful tears
For so many long years
As a teen, you watched me with hope
That these years I could cope
Teenage life you knew would be hard
So you always stood guard
Now an adult, our roles reversed
It’s me curing your thirst
Tears of pain I now wipe away
As you struggle each day
Nearing the end, my kiss...
Rocking me in your chair
Arms holding me ever so tight
Ensuring a safe night
As a child, you healed with a kiss
And brought back joy and bliss
Wiped away all my painful tears
For so many long years
As a teen, you watched me with hope
That these years I could cope
Teenage life you knew would be hard
So you always stood guard
Now an adult, our roles reversed
It’s me curing your thirst
Tears of pain I now wipe away
As you struggle each day
Nearing the end, my kiss...
