POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Hello. Poetry is my therapy, my refuge, to an extent, my my self esteem, and at times just an overwhelming joy.
Why Can't I Cooperate
Aren't you all for it?
Watching me immitate my own words, sarcasm, confusion?
So I (we) can dream of merrier weather?
So I can vie for harmony
Just for once in this neverending August
heat
My sultry stringed conscious
Spins a web of pure resentment
Yours--and I'm tangled in it
Didnt Daddy warn me?
Didn't Mama drown me in dissapointment, faithless bets, impotent vicarious safety
Didn't grandmother disinfect my heart
And my throat
With her blue rubber gloves
I'm not free from it yet
I'm flailing in...
Watching me immitate my own words, sarcasm, confusion?
So I (we) can dream of merrier weather?
So I can vie for harmony
Just for once in this neverending August
heat
My sultry stringed conscious
Spins a web of pure resentment
Yours--and I'm tangled in it
Didnt Daddy warn me?
Didn't Mama drown me in dissapointment, faithless bets, impotent vicarious safety
Didn't grandmother disinfect my heart
And my throat
With her blue rubber gloves

Father Daughter Dance
A thousand poison glimpses
Hundreds of thousands in deed
Can form malignant meditations
Of a little innocent scene
Something so utterly human
Memories of a father-daughter dance
I lived for that banquet for months
Come on memory, take a chance
A thousand clouds of rain
Can encircle our tiny camp
Flash out our clumsy waltz
Like a pack of wolves in heat
Where philosophers and therapists
Choreograph the dawn
With sequences of tears and fog
A freakish humilation
It was spring, about this time...

Wanted
It is deceptively simple--but innate
The fantastic lies that plaque truth
Needing, loving, lusting --- a sentient
Waiting to be moved
We don't realize our old illusions
How easily they comfort and grow
More enamoured as we tease and hypnotize innocence
To contort and confuse
The safe soul
Our past was earned on merit
We were deeply burned and beared it
We once had such spirit,
Looked deep within to intuit
Frailty in smiles
Passion for miles
A heart that was tender, unfiltered and wild ...

However Love Takes Us (Love Lessons)
However love takes us--
We are born. We open our lungs.
We scream the "unknown known"
The seedling of unconscious despair --
However love takes us--
Happy and young and backseat carefree
Butterflies in the minutiae of want
The first set of passion's blood wings
However love takes us--
Unhinged and breaks us
From the chrysalis of childhood need
Seeking unbidden love as all about
We weave the shadowy web of greed
However love takes us--
Seduces and awakens us to
The feast...

Snake Charmer
This is the moment
My time is a solemn vow
In empathetic gush I blink
And the moment is lost
To the breath of a second
Such beauty has a thickness
It permeates the rafters
When apathy begets loss
And the mind is a crafted thing.
Hot entangled hours
Careful wants of wishes
Sifted through the smog
To feel you through the glass
Through this dense infamous cloud
The infatuated molecules
Screech at you from the velvet ropes
A perpetual train derailment
You smile, wink and sign ...

Winters '95 and '08
Pent up love
War on a barren field.
Of the drugs that make me smile
And the hate that make me yield
To whatever demon comes
Selling bargains I can't steal
Do I need your love
Could I survive this pit alone
Gasping for the air
That seeps out of my prayer
Could I create a womb
Fashioned from the past
A silicon balloon
Around a brittle, crumbling moon
How I loathe this fertile sleep
Where I regenerate the pain
And open eyes on dawn
Red with all the life it's slain.

Paul's Valley Train Station
Agape in a memory
A spotlight flash on a transient time
When time was made of seasons
Winter woods and Summer vines
I ignite with careful words
Aiming straight for the insider
To prove the turnstiles never change
When they lose their lonely riders
Mama and Daddy
The poets of the city
Smoke-Blue-Sky-Glass-Amethyst
Two lovers in love with the skyline
She holds the loser anonymous
Now, the Embassy Hotel windows
Keep their last anniversary

Strange Garden
Strange garden
This ancient Eden by the freeway
The perfumed aftermath of tragedy
Sorrow sleeping in delusion
Holy canyons
They echo with fallen healers
Reflections kneeling by the rivers
Of the saints they knew as children
Mourning Roses
Pressed in dead as dreamers
Who leave their pail and castles
To the wind for her dominion
Grey over grey eves
Brown over brown leaves
Three windows with their curtains drawn
Dissolving morning into
The stasis of deception
This ancient Eden by the freeway
The perfumed aftermath of tragedy
Sorrow sleeping in delusion
Holy canyons
They echo with fallen healers

One Springtime Love's Contemplation
One thousand days are over
Floating, bloated and dispersed
The liar's moon has split the meaning
Of these thunderous, poison words
Love's so quick and fascinating
Ripping clockwise to the earth
Breaks the bleeding heart still breathing
In every woman's little girl.
There are hateful ways to linger
Tricks that stand the test of time
When the perfect mercy killing
Always makes it out alive
But the eyes don't fool the mirror
As karma ripens on the vine
Every lover is a killer
Of some long...

Narcissus
Scratching my way to freedom
I found a respite from your cruelty
Hurling my tearful doldrums
Into outerspace
The hornet has its nest
And a hole will hide the scorpion
But you, my lovely serpent
Can't find a home in either place
A bitter, salty powder
Made from cried out dirges
Time to genuflect
Upon your righteous kill
What keeps a donor needing
A seeker constantly seeking
In lonely, broken mirrors
For one more soul to to steal?
The titan, breathless and pale
Slinking...

Corporate Blues
Buried in so many prayers
The lives worth fighting for
Sweep in and out of the city
Punching the numbers
Cleaning the tables
Absorbed in the condensation
Of the skyscraper windows
Mellow and lonely
The computer tech's only cat has cancer
And the dark chocolate
And the opening night sex tournaments
Can't abate the coma
Or Google away the aftermath
Of dividing her life between
Scarf shopping and Monopoly
Christmas on computer screens
Mortgage debt and disfigured means
Bead up on God's toy...

Spring
The gospel teaches pain as a season...
The winter concurs. Every winter
I feel like a drop in the ocean--
Damned a mortal lifetime--
Depraved--made to break every fever
And thirst and wait upon the Lord.
Thawing out my frozen bones
I stepped into the anticipation of spring; mild and clear, my soul's dedication
Tracing the leave's veins with my
thumb nail
The sun on my neck, the ice underfoot
A hidden verse for my heart alone
In this changeling, solitude was necessary...
