POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
When it comes to poetry I like quirky, casual, humorous work, nothing too serious, which is why I write mostly erotic poetry.
We only need two words (competition entry)
We only need two words:
yes/no, one/zero, take your pick.
As long as they are opposites,
We can make the logic stick.
From this we can construct all knowledge,
Whether ideas or arithmetic.
We could construct all music or art,
Including those precious family pics.
And we could delete what we don’t need,
The falsehoods of politics.

From this we can construct all knowledge,
Whether ideas or arithmetic.

And we could delete what we don’t need,
The falsehoods of politics.

Australia
The Australian is a special place,
It’s wonderful emptiness is unmatched,
A vast, unending, ancient land,
To which old spirits are attached.
In the centre there are places so remote,
No person, stood there before,
With flowers both delicate and beautiful,
Amongst rocky outcrops, burnt red raw.
Vast plains stretch north and west,
Where the wild dingo roams,
And underneath dark burrows,
Provide wombats with cosy homes.
Along the east coast beaches stretch,
Made of pristine white-yellow sand, ...

Trilling tawdry tale
Titillating toys tied to tawdry thoughts,
Secretly she shopped, sordidly sought,
Bawdy belonging, bashfully bought,
Of a trilling, filling, thrilling sort.
Reclusive roommate, no reply, retort,
Finally alone, she hoped, she thought,
Buried belonging, boldly, brought,
Of a trilling, filling, thrilling sort.
Tentative, tense, tingling, taut,
Nubile, naked, natural, naught,
Unsure, unwound, undressed, unwrought,
Of a trilling, filling, thrilling sort.
Vulgar vibrations, vex, cavort,
Alluring, arousing, erotically...

Jargogle (competition entry)
Tis an old word to be sure,
But strangely apt for modern times,
For history does not quite repeat,
But inevitably it rhymes.
Imagine holding an empty jar,
And you’re staring through the base,
Then gaze upon your closest friend,
And see their distorted face.
What seemed once familiar,
Is now perversely warped,
Gaze upon the world this way,
And it colours all your thoughts.
We live now in strange times,
In complex ways we’re wired,
A mess of interconnectedness,...

Hero at the corner (competition entry)
A boy stands in bright sunlight peering through a chain link fence.
Positioned on the inside of the corner, waiting, expectant, tense.
A dull roar grows quickly, eight cylinders at the limit, a piercing, unearthly scream.
Then violent down shifting, thunderous cracking, from the fierce bestial machine.
The race car appears, the boys spies his hero, scarlet helmet, clear visor.
Car fast and sleek, a technical masterpiece by some forgotten designer.
Hero turns, hard on the brakes, car screams protesting at the abuse.
Front suspension...

The house that should not be (competition entry)
When stars align and night is still,
And gibbous moon bears eerie chill,
Perched upon, dark dreary hill,
Resides the house that should not be.
Who knows what horrors lurk inside
Where fear and loathing coincide,
And death itself has faltered, died,
How did this abomination come to be?
‘Tis a horrid mystery...
Warped doors and window panes,
Wrapped in howls of fear and pain,
Driving those nearby insane,
It is a malformed monstrosity.
This aberration you will find,
Mercifully, one of a kind,

You want a car, not a goat (competition entry)
Imagine three numbered doors,
Behind which you cannot see,
Behind one a car, the others goats,
And a host that smiles with glee.
For the host, he knows everything,
He can see behind each door,
But he is at least sporting chap,
So pay attention, I do implore.
Once you choose a door,
He leaves your chosen door closed,
Instead he will open a different door,
Where a goat becomes exposed.
He will ask you a simple question,
Do you stay or do you switch?
You can choose either unopened door,
The tricky part...

Numbers
The counting numbers are infinite,
Start with one and never complete,
Progressing in consistent intervals,
This property we call: discrete.
The primes are a subset,
Not every counting number qualifies,
And although gaps appear quite often,
The set is still infinite in size.
The negative numbers show direction,
Left down the number-line, not right,
But negative numbers are not wrong,
Else two wrongs could make a right.
The imaginary numbers are quite strange,
Based on the square root of minus one,
Yet...
