Lying here with you,
Overcome with great passion—
Vibrant colors are delicately painted:
Emotions spilled onto the canvas of our love.

When I Die
When I’m finally laid to rest,
Please don’t put me in a wooden casket;
Or leave flowers at my grave,
In a pretty little basket.
Don’t pump me full of chemicals
And put me on display;
Just bury me beneath the earth,
And plant a seed upon my grave.
As my body rots below,
My atoms are assimilated;
In my place a tree will grow,
From the place that I originated.
Precious minerals, returned to earth;
Little molecules of me,
The fuel for yet another life ...

A Cog in the Machine
When you are born, your mind is a blank slate: an empty canvas, bare of reason.
Early on, our perception of reality is paved by the way it is described to us by others;
Once we are older, it is our responsibility to learn to discern deception from the truth,
Which lies in wait, cloaked beneath the veil of ignorance, steeped in traditions of the past.
Sitting in class, immersed in deep thought, I look up to see everyone around me doing the same thing.
Absorbed in their paperwork, not blinking an eye, they all seem to write in perfect unison. ...

Simple Pleasures
On the border of a little town near Boston, a busker sleeps in an abandoned boxcar,
a bunker from the brutality of the busy streets; the bane of his bitter existence.
With a banjo by his side, a bottle of booze in his hand, and a dirty, blue bandana tightly wrapped around his head, he dreams of better days, when these blissful moments were experienced in far less brevity; Long before a brush stroke of bad luck painted his skies from blue to grey.
Under the bright moonlight, he dreams of times when life was simple.
Of benevolent sunrises over...

A Banquet for the Birds
A brisk breeze blows;
Buckeye branches bow
Beneath the beautiful, blue sky.
Behold!
Blackberry brambles
Bursting with berries,
Bring bountiful banquets for the birds.
Blue Jays and blackbirds
Break berries beneath their bold bills,
A ferocious feeding frenzy
Before the famine of first frost.
A curious cardinal creeps ever closer,
Keeping careful consideration of the crows;
Fearful, but finally finding his favorite fix
In a fervent flurry of feathers.

Sleeping in the Forest (A memorial to Mary Oliver)
That night, I slept beneath the watch of a familiar face, but one which I had not visited for quite some time.
I gazed deep into Mother nature’s nurturing eyes,
As she held me in her warm embrace
And so tenderly took me away
From the bane of my existence,
'Neath the skirt of a gnarled, giving tree.
Her pockets full of nuts and seeds,
The fallen fruits of her creation,
Bestowed so lovingly to me,
Neatly rested below its gnarled branches,
An enchanted slumber befell my eyes
As mother...

You
When you’re sad, I’ll hold you close to me…and catch your tears.
And when you’re old, I’ll still be there for you…through all the years.
You are beautiful like evergreens, riverbeds, and rocky streams!
You caught my eye!
You are beautiful like daffodils that grow along the rolling hills!
I’m so in love!
And I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about anyone but...
You.
And when you’re down, I’ll always be around…to make you smile
When you’re glad, I’ll be there for you too…I’ll stay awhile.
You are beautiful like...

Jason Becker
Jason Becker was a star,
shining brighter than the rest.
He played the hell out of the guitar;
Some might say he was the best.
He scored a gig of high acclaim,
His wildest dreams were coming true!
Then his fate took a tragic turn;
It struck out of the blue.
He was diagnosed with ALS
Doctors said he’d live a few more years,
Because it was still germinal,
But they had little hope for him:
"The disease is always terminal."
Jason’s dreams came crashing down,
He had just begun to live, ...

Ignorance (the wall that lies between us)
They were far too different from us,
that’s why we had to build the wall.
"A bunch of lousy criminals,
Who rape and kill and break the law."
“It just isn’t American!
Their skin is much too tan!
They speak a foreign language
That we can’t understand.”
And so we built a wall between us,
To separate ourselves from them.
But little did we know,
That our minds were closing in.
For what we thought to be so different
Was very much the same,
But with a different color,
Called by a different...

A Cosmic Canvas (for our love)
A magnetic attraction brings heavenly bodies ever closer,
As our hearts burn brightly under starry skies.
Starry eyes, like windows to the soul, reveal the depths of your universe in a stellar way;
Our blazing hearts, burn ever brighter...
As supernovas burst and constellations collide, a million of miles above,
Explosions of emotions paint the sky, a canvas for our cosmic love.
As our hearts burn brightly under starry skies.
Starry eyes, like windows to the soul, reveal the depths of your universe in a stellar way;
Our blazing hearts, burn ever brighter...
As supernovas burst and constellations collide, a million of miles above,
Explosions of emotions paint the sky, a canvas for our cosmic love.
