POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am. What else it there to say? My likes, dislikes, loves and wishes, mean nothing if I do not acknowledge that I simply am. That I breathe and experience. There is no greater explanation.
The Product of End
Can I call you brother,
Mother,
Sister,
Friend?
Can you guess the past,
The present
The future
End?
Will you embrace the fall,
The rise
The stale
Defend?
Can you make stable the reason,
The decision
The corruption
Pretend?
Will you understand the borrowing,
The keeping,
The witness,
Lend?
Are you strong enough to sway,
To move,
To list,
Bend?
If I reached out, would you take hold,
Take blame,
Take honor,
Extend?
Can you understand the writing,...

Predawn in a Jar
Oh, to catch the sound
Of the predawn of the morn'
When everything is soft,
And light is just being born
When tranquility twirls her gown
To the singing of the birds
And night begins to bow
As the sun’s trumpeting is heard
If I could…
I would bottle the predawn in a jar,
Set it out for all to see
That I had caught and trapped
What once was ever free
I would string it on a bracelet
So its warmth was ever felt
Write it in a book
Where its colors could be held
I’d cherish it always

Whimsy
Whimsy was a state of mind
Whimsy got left behind,
It was like good and evil, only better
Whimsy brought the world together
It was painted within the written word
Strung itself in everything heard
Wove around the art of dance
And at every instance drove to enhance
But as I claimed, it was left behind
Replaced by an analytical kind
Its only presence was trapped in text
Where it beat its bindings, desperate and vexed
It was a forgotten key that drove us on
Gave color to the rising dawn
Now the world looks on for aid,...

Release
Outstretched
Open
Pleading,
Drenched in the rain
Desperate for hope
To wash away the stain
But the pain,
The anger
The trying betrayal,
Held tight
Burned
Egged on the fight
The scream
Let loose –
Rage,
Vengeance
Revenge,
Shattered by loss
Fury to avenge
He had to hurt
As much a she,
The hate
Wrung tight
Ensnared them both
With savage bite
She crumpled to the ground
Desolate
She knew she’d been fooled,
Her need for freedom
Allowed her temper to cool

The Drowned
How small can I make myself
If I curl up real tight,
Shrink into myself,
And levy the night?
Would I fit through the cracks
Left by the blows?
Could I travel unseen
Between all the rows?
Would the abyss welcome
This small sense of me,
Hand my the locks,
Allow me to hide the key?
What venues would I find
Deep in this dark?
Could I uncover,
The truth to my own heart?
Who would dare
Search for me here,
Flee the day
To pursue the fear?
I can only decide, let me stay

Waiting
I’ve laid down this work of mine
This work that’s yet undone
Because my strength is no longer
What it was when I’d begun
I’ll neither rage nor cry
Against the insistence of my rest
I know the Lord has a great plan
And that my stillness will be blessed
This work that’s yet undone
Because my strength is no longer
What it was when I’d begun
I’ll neither rage nor cry
Against the insistence of my rest
I know the Lord has a great plan
And that my stillness will be blessed

Prairie Play
They twirled and whipped
Gliding together,
Brushing caress
They're colors of gold,
Shimmering
All beneath the blessed
For a moment each rose
Their dance momentarily stopped
The silence but a moment
As the breath was caught
Then once more they bent
Fluttered and swayed
A laughter of whispers
A witness that prayed
Swept along,
Rolling together,
The individual shaded
A vast hill top,
Blended
That the wind guided and baited
The song continued,
A rhythmic performance ...

Compromise
Rip!
Snatched right out of your hand
Left it soiled
Left it bland
Eloped the trust
That prevails the self
Stacked inhibitions
Placed them high on a shelf
Fueled the heart
But degraded the peace
Moved on in
Without paying lease
Disguised itself
As the thing you crave most,
You opened up
Becoming the host
For a while you indulged
Thinking it real
Used it as an excuse
To compromise a deal
But this thing that you feel
Isn’t sent from above
It was only lust
That called itself love
Snatched right out of your hand
Left it soiled
Left it bland
Eloped the trust
That prevails the self
Stacked inhibitions
Placed them high on a shelf
Fueled the heart
But degraded the peace
Moved on in

Renewal
Red is a paradox
That bends and sways,
Reduces with heat
What is born to decay
It is a natural occurrence
When fire razes
A destruction of life
To usher in new stages
If God’s mighty blaze
Has swept through your life
Obliterated your grounds
Set the sky bright with strife,
Then hold on dear soul
For the fires will die,
And the smoke and the smog
Will reveal a blue sky
Beneath all the ash
New life will bloom,
And what was darkened and crowded
Will grow large with new room
So never doubt,...
That bends and sways,
Reduces with heat
What is born to decay
It is a natural occurrence
When fire razes
A destruction of life
To usher in new stages
If God’s mighty blaze

A Piece of Morning
There lies in my pocket
A broken piece of morning,
All sharp and rigid
With simple form
Those colors dawn and weary
Were lost when being born
I know of no such honor
No such paradise
That would lend this article
This beauty, this light
But lo’ look here, it been given to me
A guide on my path in my dark reverie
A broken piece of morning,
All sharp and rigid
With simple form
Those colors dawn and weary
Were lost when being born
I know of no such honor
No such paradise
That would lend this article
This beauty, this light
But lo’ look here, it been given to me
A guide on my path in my dark reverie

Leashed (For Now)
Splattered with these emotions
Overrun and unaware
Can’t pin down the need to flee,
Not to flinch beneath your stare
It protests in the muscles
It itches on the skin
It slithers in the eyes
Turns bright world into din
The compulsion is barely leashed,
The will and want to run
But family claims they need me
To see the rising of the sun
Don’t dare say you love me!
The words will break my weakened grasp
Untie the pulsing potential
That lies behind the mask
Once it’s found its freedom
You know I’ll never stop...
Overrun and unaware
Can’t pin down the need to flee,
Not to flinch beneath your stare

Red-Winged Black Bird
I wish I was...
The red upon your wing,
The wind beneath your feathers.
I wish I was...
Your voice, the sweet harmony you sing,
The land beneath you that leaves you lovely letters.
I wish I was...
The red-winged black bird
The red-winged black bird
I wish I was...
The red winged black bird,
All your glowing beauty
I wish I was...
All your glowing beauty,
The wind wild and free.
I wish I was...
And dared to love, trust, and see,
Jump off the cliff,
Open my wings and fly free
The red upon your wing,
The wind beneath your feathers.
I wish I was...
Your voice, the sweet harmony you sing,
The land beneath you that leaves you lovely letters.
I wish I was...
The red-winged black bird
The red-winged black bird
I wish I was...
The red winged black bird,

I wish I was...
All your glowing beauty,
The wind wild and free.

And dared to love, trust, and see,
Jump off the cliff,
