Faded flames
Faded flames haunt my memories
A summer rain that brings reprieve
From the scorching earth heat
Yet their stay never lingers
Only the cool comfort
Of that beautiful time and place
When soundtrack sounds surround
Whisking and wishing us
To new and untouched lands
And the secret of knowing
In that moment
Nothing else mattered, but us

Where'd you go 17
Living life at the edge
Stuck between kid and adult
Abyss looming as we teeter on the ledge
With the world in our hands
And fire in our eyes
We didn't care about apathy
As long as we got high on Friday night
Our minds spun on donut rides
In a gravel parking lot
Copping beers from the store
Hoping we didn't get caught
Speeding fast with windows down
Wind blowing through our hair
Meeting up with friends in town
Without worry or care
Come back 17
I'm lost in this...

Soak up life
Wade into the moonlit sea
Gaze into the infinite cosmos
Bathe in mysterious waters
Fade into the crevices of my dreams
Pace yourself as you walk the garden
Raise those fingers, touch the sky
Lay in sun bleached golden fields
Waste the day taking in life
Lazy days soaking up each other
Hazy memories from long ago
Save our minds betrayed by time
Decay and deceive, so slow
Wave goodbye to the past
Say what needs to be said
Future never comes
Present is here to stay

Like a pale corpse
To lead charge into battle
Pushed and berated on
A beast of burden

Broken spirit
You were the violent storm
Ravaging the wastelands
Of my wandering soul
Did you plan my destruction
From conception of our
Ill fated entanglement
You wanted a mindless puppet
To carry out your devious deeds
While you sat by with idle hands
I was blinded by your
Seductive sensual suggestions
Hypnotized by your forked tongue
You laid waste to my
Ideas of love and the future
With one venomous bite
Now I lie here, older but wiser
Reaching out from the rubble
Waiting...

Belief was a dream
I lost it all
Last night
Stood by and watched
As it all
Withered and died
I don't even believe myself
I'm not giving in
I'm giving up
Tired of living a lie
Sick of my life
I've had enough
Used to see the light

Is cold and grey

Every now and then
Tears still fall
Memories fade
But I can still see your face

Burning bright
We'd slay this world
At seventeen
The future was too far away
To get in our way
But time had different ideas
Cruel to the heart
And sorrow to the soul
Tearing loose, leaving holes
Now I'm lost in the present
And you're stuck in the past
Frozen against your will
Fate forever sealed
Tears still fall

So I cling to the future ...

Calloused
Forever feeling pain
Hidden death of falling stars
Lost trust somewhere in stabbing rain
Nursing scars of a hurting heart
Truth lies within goodbyes
Decisions always ruminate to roam
Didn't recognize the cries from inside
Eternally cursed to feel alone?
Fade into moonlight and dust
Swept away in floods of delusional love
Heart's been left to fade in rust
A dying disease ridden dove
Callous feelings care no more
Protected perfectly by
A cast iron cage with no door
No longer affected by love or lies ...

Forget my smile
Forget my laugh
Forget my eyes
Forget all those things you said

Because your happiness was all I wanted, all I needed

Alone
I wake up alone
Drink my coffee and bourbon
Next to the foggy window
As the cold rain loosens and breaks
Every leaf still left clinging to life
Before they're pushed to the ground
I go out alone
Thinking about the note you left
That day you went away because of
My distance, despair and depression
Saying you needed more to life
Than a series of highs and lows from a
Never ending roller-coaster ride
And the chilling rain continued
I come home alone
Drink my bourbon and coffee
With a little more...

Blackbirds
It's a long way home
When you don't know
Where home is
I wander lonely roads
Of asphalt and dust
Searching
I see the blackbirds
Watching and waiting
Starving for a burnt-out soul
They follow my every move
Perched in tree tops
Along window sills
I recall buildings and towns
From a long ago
Far away dream
But none are home to me
So I continue on
Still searching
Blackbirds land on my shoulders
And at my feet
Sensing my weariness
They whisper...
