The Weight of the Past
Fuck my past, that shit is gone
I think its time to move the fuck on
Its been this weight I've carried around
Maybe its time to lay it all down
Strapped to my back it causes me pain
Weakens my legs and jumbles my brain
Dwelling is pointless, I cannot go back
It keeps me away from the peace that I lack
For me to move forward I need to let go
The lessons contained, I already know
All that remains is the burden of mind
Lifes always moving, Im falling behind
Clinging to remnants, I'm stuck in...

Grandfather
I remember walking into that hospital room
He looked up and made eye contact
A strained smile on his face
His eyes had no fire or willpower behind them
I had never seen that before in his eyes
He was a pillar of strength
He was the only source of stability I had ever known in my life
It broke me in that moment
His leg wrapped at the knee with the rest missing
We talked and I knew that his zeal for life was gone

Thoughts On Comings and Goings
People come and go in this journey of life
Sometimes we feel upset about those no longer with us
I believe that when people leave our life its because the purpose has been served
Maybe we needed some love or support in that moment
Maybe there was a lesson that we needed to learn
We mustn't allow ourselves to be weighed down by these comings and goings
We must understand that not everyone is meant to be in our life forever
Some people are ships that cross our path on their own individual journey
The good ones should be held to memory...

Assemble the pieces that are in disarray
Wait... wait.... wait, just a bit
Need a minute to come to terms with this shit
Not easy to give up what used to be home

Take hold of my hand and Ill pull you ashore
I know that you're cautious and lacking in trust
I will walk alongside you while you adjust...

Night
I want to break out into the night
Go somewhere far from sight
Drifting into the absence of light
Beyond the reach of the fight
Under the stars surrounded by peace
All the cares and worries come to cease
Hidden from the world, able to release
The company of shadows makes the anxiety decrease
Stillness brings serenity to my soul
The solitude facilitates me gaining control
Free from the weight of playing a role
Recharging the energy that the daylight stole
I'd try to keep moving to stay ahead of the sun ...

I walk in the door, she begs for attention
Its heartwarming but it fills me with tension
Ive spent the whole day being on my own
I suppose I get used to being alone
Shes been alone too and shes happy Im here
No matter where I rest she has to be near
By my side is never quite good enough
She nuzzles right in and shes kind of rough
Forceful in the way she settles herself in
With a look like "where the fuck have you been?"
Sometimes it can be a little too much ...

Jane's sound asleep and I can't help but think of you, my friend
Out there trying to lose yourself
Lose the pain that you are burdened with
This addiction that eats at your soul
